My N/A 91 finally Dynoed!!!

So I got great dyno results after 3 years of tedious work getting this thing off the ground and such. Here's a link to my mods and all that stuff.

And here's a pic of my dyno results.

Why the big jump at 7K? your 6 ports working?

powerband seems kind of narrow, I would think you'd have more power at 5.5-6K, maybe running a bit too rich?

but the 182 at the wheels is lovely

Ok so here's what it is, 6 ports and vdi are both there but the six ports are set to open at anything over 50% on the throttle and the vdi is set to open up at 6500 rpm. When i drove the hell out of my car on the way home, let me just say its INSANE!!! Nice even powerband till 6.5 then the car just jumps like hell to 8.5. Hahaha it was crazy.

EDIT: I forgot, yes the car is running a bit rich, even on the high end. Talked to John at mazdatrix and sometime this year i'm probably going to get my intake manifold opened up a little wider.

Nice work. My ports are set to open at 3000rpm but I really feel it up past 4000rpm. Having drove it without them working, it's a whole new car almost. The jacobs fc1000 helps too.

Sounds like you should open up that VDI earlier, having it closed till 6.5 is holding back your mid range power. Isnt the bottleneck on the intake side at the TB? Opening up the manifold wont do much I dont think, or maybe not. I think you'd get more power gains by getting the fuel curve proper, but I guess you cant do that till you finish with all the mods.

How did you hook up the 6ports to open up on 50% throttle? mechanical(cable) linkage?

Running the TII rotor housings means you dont have the exhaust baffles right? Wonder how much that is lowering your low end grunt.

DD or track car?

Yea, i'll admit the powerband is a little....odd, but it is kind of fun having that juice at the top end but it is a daily driver and it will go for auto cross and maybe a little time attack so i'm getting it ready for that. As for the six ports, I'm not sure how it works that way, I'll have to ask John when i go to mazdatrix tomorrow. Nelson tuned my haltech and stuff so I'll do a little digging around and see what i can get. I'll let you guys know later.

this might be the first time I have read someone posting about thier car at mazdatrix, sounds like they did a great job.

Its no wonder they have been in business as long as they have, first class outfit all the way.

yeah bring the vdi back down to like 5200 where the stock ecu opens it up. That should improve your midrange a bunch

I think the stock ecu opens the vdi at 4400 rpms, I think i'm going to ask them to drop it down to 5500. Its got a decent powerband up till vdi opens but once it does open its a completely different car. Although I dont know if i want it to open so early because I dont want it to activate during normal street and highway driving, it would be........difficult to hide from cops.

Well a little bit, but what i mean is, i dont really want VDI to be open when i'm just cruising, you dont need it. Yes i realize that when its at its stock setting 4400 rpm that is using it in a normal setting but for my purposes i dont need it to be open until late anyway so its gonna stay close to where it is.

So you are saying you want worse gas milage? More power at a lower RPM means less load on the engine and thus better gas milage at cruising speeds. There is no advantage to restricting your low & mid range power... in this case it is not a trade off between mid range and top end power... if it were I'd understand your position, but basically your setup is holding you back with no advantage.

You dont run out of VDI, there is a reason why they set it to open where they did. The best way to set it would be to do a run with VDI and another without it and turn it on where they cross.
