If you're making over 12 psi, get an aftermarket BOV.

A boost controller is used to raise max boost. An electronic one also increases the speed at which boost rises, so even if you leave your boost level the same, you’ll see an improvement in mid-range torque because max boost is reached earlier.
Your stock BOV is fine unless you’re running over about 13psi boost or you want to make some noise.

If you want to go faster then you need a boost controller. This will allow you to change when the wastegate opens thereby giving you higher output from the turbo.

If you want to protect that turbo from compressor surge then you need a BOV
