my last FD alternator thread i promise

ok, after reading every aplicabel thread on this subject i'm in dire need of a short and sweet answer.

will an FD alternator bolt directly onto( with minor grinding of the TMIC), and plug right into (without alteration) my S5 T2

some threads say yes but you still have batter drain problems
oen thread talked about having to swap the pullys.
I'm just unsure of what im getting into

thnx and sorry for the repeat

The plugs are the same on the S5 and the FD alternator. You may need to cut a small notch out of the TMIC, but I hear it is different for each person as far as clearence goes. You will want a pulley that has the same diameter as the FD serpentine pulley. The diameter of the V-belt pulley is determind by how far into the groove the V belt fits in. So the further down in the groove, the smaller the diameter, the faster the alt will spin, which is possibly a bad thing. I believe forum memeber hiGGi makes a dual V belt pulley that is predrilled for the FD alternator shaft. The shaft diameters for the S5 alt and the FD one are different. The S5 shaft is slightly smaller by about 1/16 of an inch. Also, you will need to slightly rewire the alternator plug. One of the 2 wires leading into the plug needs to be wired to a constant +12v source so there is always +12v going into the FD alt, or it will attempt to charge the battery when the car is off, which is not a good thing. I unfortunately cannot remember which of the 2 wires needs to be cut and re wired.

On my Zenki FC turbo, I never had to adjust anything on the stock TMIC, but...
I did mod the main power connector - use the original / grind off position divot / bolt onto FD alternator.
This makes "grinding" the stock TMIC unnecessary.

No, the divot is on the plastic "arm" that the main power cable bolts onto the alternator.

The FD alternator uses an "L" shaped one, and you cannot change the position.
The FC alternators use an "I" shaped one, and you can adjust the position, cause it's splined on the alternator side of the mounting.

It's hard to describe in words, but if you take it all apart, you'll understand.
