hey thanks . i am going nuts with this 1988 rx7 i drive it so hard that things seem to break , i just put in a rebuilt engine cause the head gasket broke on the old one at 92,000 but it still reaks off anti freeze i wonder if that is just from when it spilt all over before ? i was thinking i would steam clean the engine . is resoldering the cpu hard i think my dad has a soldering kit .. thanks alot i love my car !!

well what a rotory would have as a head gasket ? ( a seal on the rotor ?) its not a v8 conversion .. i am not at all knowledgeable of cars they still puzzle me but what happened was white smoke came out of my car until it just reeked of anti freeze and started to over heat .. then i could not find anyone to work on it and my mechanic said find a new engine but all i could afford was a rebuilt one ..

 

Rotaries don't have a head gasket. You're problem was due to the o-ring on one of the the rotor housings failing.

There is a plug on each horn. They are located behind the bumper cover. If you remove that black plastic guarg between the bumper cover and the rad support you will see the horns. Simply unplug each horn.

 

Check the steeringwheel if you havn't already. There is a metal brace in the wheel and a little wire connector. You might have a loose screw completeing the circut for the horn. It is a possibility, it happened to me before.

 

just unplug the horn connectors (2).

those head gaskets are a real bitch, BTW

 

not as bad as if he needed to do a valve job on it...the valves on a rotary are a bitch! lol

 

Yeah, check the steering wheel too. A screw came loose in mine, and the connection for the left horn button was swinging around inside. It randomly completed the circuit and my horn would honk at the most inopportune times. Seems like there was always someone walking near me when it would go off. I would usually just beat on the steering wheel until it stopped. This went on for about a week before I finally pulled it off and fixed it.

By the way, on the 2 spoke steering wheels, how does the center Mazda emblem attatch? Mine was just jammed in there crooked. There is just a little plastic peg, and a little plastic slot to slide it into, but it doesn't hold it in place. Anyway, it broke when I was messing with it just like every other plastic piece in the damn car.

Why do our interior pieces suck sooooo bad? Oh well, I'll probably just glue it back on.

 

I have had a screw come loose in the steering wheel. The horn would go off at the worst times. I was driving to work horn a blaring. I would pass people with my hands in the air. They thought it was some funny stuff

Dirch it and buy a new one thats louder for 15$

If It is broken you might be able to use some double sided tape or something. I wonder what a replacement from mazda would cost.

thanks problem solved ! .. i think they made everything from plastic cause it was the 80s and everyone loved plastic !! plus i dont think these cars were meant to be commuters at all ,, more like weekend rides .. u.
