My GXL finally running! Few questions too.

Hey guys, my GXL finally started up this morning after 2 years of no-start. ECU got cooked by some moisture that had gotten into the passenger side floorboard area under the carpets. Really wierd since the carpet itself looked absolutely untouched but it was pretty moist in the insulation under it. Anyways it started right up and proceeded to start shooting white and blue smoke EVERYWHERE. I didn't let it warm up, just let it run for about 30-45 seconds. It had lost some oil so I filled it up again, no loss in coolant. I started it up a second time and it smoked for a while just as bad, then completely stopped. Ran it for maybe 2 minutes. Stopped it because the coolant light came on and there is a fuel leak twards the back of the car near the gas tank. I do have some questions though! I am getting nothing from the oil pressure guage. If I keep an eye on the oil level, will I be ok without this? I'm also debating letting it idle its way up to thermostat temperature, is this a good idea? Is the engine temperature guage trustworthy?

If you get no oil pressure, be sure that the sensor is correctly plugged, I had the same problem and I was pretty worried. this sensor is an electrical nipple located in the oil filter area.

If its connected and the sensor works well, you have two options... the gauge is faulty or there is really no oil pressure which would maybe indicate a thermo oil bypass pellet not working. But I doubt it's this, since you would get some oil pressure, but lower than usual...

Every single gauge in the cluster is + or - accurate, especially water temp gauge... It gives a pretty good average, but I wouldn't trust the exact readings

If you lost oil, coolant or fuel, I recommand to begin by fixing those HUGE problem before trying to start the cars. Those problems can be pretty simple ( simple leaks ) or pretty bad ones ( oil control rings = blue smoke and soft seals = white smoke )

hope this helps you

Hey, thanks for the answer. I got the coolant warning guage working, and I found the oil "nipple" with nothing connected to it! What a coincidence! I can't seem to find where the connecter went, couldn't have gone far. Anways, I'm going to have to replace both of my fuel lines. Any suggestions on what to use for line? I was going to use normal 100 PSI fuel injection hose, but my friend said it could get chewed up by rocks and stuff from the road. So he recommended steel tubing or atleast a steel braided hose.

update

Can't find the oil pressure connector anywhere, where does it come from? This is going to sound a little wierd but theres a "plate" style connector right below the oil filter, or atleast it looks like one, what the heck is that? The kind a female blade connector slides onto. I'll get a picture if I'm not making any sense.

Oil pressure connector is like a long rectangle with a slot on the back of it.. (kinda like a cellphone belt clip) if you look at the sender (which is the round thing about the size of a golf ball below the oil filter) you'll see that it has a "Button" on the end of it. the clip slides onto the button. (i think its what you are talking about)

the connector is on a single wire and should be connectoed to the wiring harness on the drivers side..

Beside the oil sender is the water temp sender, which just has a pin sticking out of it that its connector goes to.
