Is this an ongoing problem, or did it just pop up recently? Mine got messed up from the cold, and I had to take the switch out, douse it in contact cleaner, and put it back in. Now it's fine, but never had the problem in the summer

Other then that, I'd check to see if your taillights, running lights, and blinkers still work, and go through all your fuses underhood and in the interior fuse panel to make sure you haven't blown one.

check to see if you got 12v at the socket for the bulbs... kinda easy, but you know after damn near 20 years, i suppose they could have burnt out

You can see from this schematic that the lighting for the combination meter comes in on the RG wire or if you will Red/Green wire. It comes from the light switch. Pull the applicable plug and see if you have 12v coming in on the RG wire.

Look to the upper right of the jpg for the RG wire and the terminology as to where it comes from. It comes from the light switch on the left. Look at the plug called CO-3. That plug is NOT at the rear of the combination meter. It's located about a foot behind/below the combination meter.
