you have to disconnect and unbolt just about everything you can see and start pullin it out. then you will have to disconnect even more ****. keep workin it and it will eventually come out. i did mine by myself but it REALLLY HELPS having another set of hands to work it free(it will catch and snag on everthing)
good luck, nice find for the owner

I guess I'll answer for him. We've taken out many, many, many bolts. Both the left and right side are pretty well loose, but the center is stuck on something. Were gonna work on it again today, we didnt have a chance over the weekend.
For whoever suggested the crowbar, we already though about that, but he wants to reuse the dash..

That's definatley a FCD in the pic. If he put an FCD on a car with nothing other than gutted cats and catback exhaust, theres a good chance that something or another was causing the wastegate not to open, making him think he needed FCD. If this is the case, the turbo is destroyed and possibly the engine as well, which would be why it stopped running. Still, it's a great deal. I paid 4 grand for mine, and had to put another 4 grand into here a month later after I blew the engine, so you're still starting ahead of me

Ive got the service manual and I'm gonna bring it out there and look at it while workin on the dash, I can see from the manual thers still stuff we need to take off, we'll get it eventually. I want to have full nice clean interior so no crowbars.. unfortunately. The turbo may have been destroyed, but the guy that gave it to me said they just put a brand new turbo on before it died so I dont think there should be a problem with that. Can you guys point out the FCD for me, I duno what it looks like or where it goes on an RX-7. I'll try to keep and eye out for any more mods.
Great find.
The FCD (fuel cut defender) will be plugged in to your pressure sensor which is bolted to the front of the passenger side shock tower. The stock computer cuts fuel to the rear rotor at about 8.5 pounds of boost. The FCD prevents this....however, anything over 8.5 you start to lean out b/c the computer is still seeing 8.4 lbs of boost due to the FCD. (numbers aren't exact, just a guesstimate)

I got the dash off, problem was just the 2 bolts holding steering column up with the dash, took those off, unhooked some harnesses, and the dash came right out. Now it seems that I have to take out all the A/C crap behind the dash to get the carpet out... right? Also, I took out the storage boxes to get the rear carpet out and there is a black box with a few wires plugged into it under the driver side storage compartment, its made by GE, I couldn't figure out what it was.. I'll get some pics soon and show you what I'm talking about.

wow, he does have ya a little beat
there is a clip under the A/C stuff that holds the carpet down. if ya keep workin the carpet it will eventually just give way and the carpet will come out. when putting carpet back in just work it left and right sliding it under all the A/C stuff and it will hold nice and snug.

Ok I got the carpet out, I cut it into 3 pieces though. No big deal, I'm gonna get new carpet anyway. Now I gotta work on getting the last few pieces of the rear interior out. Then... cleaning starts.

The rear is in very good condition, I'm sure I can just steam clean all the carpet in the rear and It'll be good as new. And the plastic parts just need to be cleaned a little because they're still in perfect condition.

Be sure to install the new carpet BEFORE the dash, in my car I could see no other way to get the carpet far up under the AC stuff in the front. Luckily I was doing color swap and was putting in a black dash at the same time.

Just kidding. Good find for a price you paid.
