My Free 88 TII Part 2: Stripped and Resurrected (Pics)

Well I let the ATF sit for about a week and tried to turn the engine and it turned just fine. So I hooked everything back up and it took a long time to start, but it just needed some starting fluid and it fired right up. Surprisingly it didn't blow out too much smoke and it's idleing smooth but high, I guess the gas stabilizer did a pretty good job. I'm gonna go to the junkyard today and get a battery for it, pump up the tires, and rig up the stuff in the interior that I need to drive it. Then it will be good to go. The interior is completely stripped now so the next step is to clean everything and get new carpet, then the interior will be done. The paint is decent, just needs some good buffing and a few of the dents fixed and it'll look real good.

The Part 2 pics are on Picture Trail temporarily for now until I can get my extra hosting space on AT&T working right, so as soon as I can use AT&T again I will put them up with Part 1, and eventually Part 3. So here are the pics...

Part 2: http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/...4577&members=1

Part 1: http://home.attbi.com/~sellah5000/rx-7.html

Anyone know what that black box is for? It connects to that black wire that goes up to the rear window. I think it's for an old cell phone setup.

Here is the original thread: https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...5&pagenumber=3

PS: Total cost was $40 to actually get the car running (including $24 Title transfer fee and minus the $12.50 in change I found in the car).

Mazda did a pretty shitty job in wiring our cars, and over time, the cold-solder joints tend to fail in the logicon and dashboard. These failures manifest themselves by switches that don't work, heater controls that have a mind of their own, and electrical fires underhood.

These problems tend to crop up more in the 86-88 RX-7s, but it's not unheard of for 89-91 owners to have problems with wiper switches that only work when set to "intermittent".

Damn good job. Now all you have to do is either clean the crap out of the carpet or get one from a junk yard.

man i'd just take the logicon and heater **** out, get some nice sparco torino racing seats, maybe some carpet, put the dash back in, and be done with the interior (oh yeah maybe the door panels too).
i think cars look badass with just some nice racing seats and thin black carpet to cover up the metal with otherwise "stripped" interior. like jsut enough fabric to cover up the metal in the front of the car.

i ran my turboII for a couple weeks with a stripped rear. all i had was the seats, carpet and dash. no door panels no speakers no cd player, it was pretty hardcore.

Ok today I got a battery and started it up and let the car warm up a bit. After it warmed up and burned off all the rest of the ATF, it idled nice and smooth at around 700 rpm I think. Then I drove it around in a circle and parked it the opposite direction just to see if it drives, and it drove just fine.

I think the windshield wipers don't work at all right now, I plugged that all back in and tried them and they didn't work on any setting at all, so thats 1 thing to fix. Also, the key buzzer noise stays on all the time no matter what I do, even when the car is running, so I gotta figure out what I need to plug in to make it stop. Other than that the car works great so far.

Yes, I am going to keep all the interior parts and put it all back together along with new carpet.

No, I don't have the faceplate for the deck, it belongs to the people that gave me the car so they wanted me to take all the stereo equipment out and give it to them.

Yes, I know the wheels are mixed up, my friend who works at Discount Tire pointed that out the day I got the car, I'll fix it after I bring the tires down to him to fix the leaks.

Are you sure its the buzzer for the key and not for the coolant level?

Well the buzzing noise is coming from the gauge cluster. And I just filled the coolant up so it should be ok, but I'll check it tomorrow to make sure, I'll plug the idiot lights back in and see whats goin on with them too.
