What have you been doing to get it off? Get the nut and thread it loosely on the eccentric shaft. Then get a nice heavy hammer and start whacking around the edge of the flywheel until it pops off. Putting the nut loose keeps the flywheel from falling to the ground or popping into your face.

Hit it with a 2 1/2 hammer around the outside face while you have the fly wheel puller with tension on it. It worked great for me!

All you need is a hammer.
Does anyone do searches anymore???

I've managed to do this with a "regular" hammer, but a mini sledge (something over 2 lbs.) works best.

THREAD THE FLYWHEEL NUT BACK ON - this prevents the flywheel from popping off and landing on your toes!

Now WAIL at the flywheel - do NOT hit the mating surface with the clutch disc - do NOT hit the ring gear.
Try to hit the area between the ring gear and the mating surface; it doesn't matter if your dent this section.

You need to hit the flywheel so hard the hammer is going to fly out of your hand.
The flywheel will ring so loud it'll make you deaf.
If you're not hitting it this hard, you're not hammering hard enough!

The flywheel should pop off in 5 tries.

Yes, in the times I have had to pop off my flywheel, I have borrowed the Mazda special tool from my brother (He's a parts manager for Mazda). The last time I used it- I didn't thread the flywheel nut back on beforwe I popped it off, and now I have a champ-like scar on my forearm from the flywheel teeth.

Where's a good place to get a hold of the right socket for the flywheel nut? It's a 2 1/8 inch or 54mm socket, right? I haven't been able to find one locally, but did see this on this and it looks like it would work. I have a decent 1/2" drive breaker bar and this would fit nicely:

Just in case it hasnt been made clear, a rubber mallet or dead blow hammer will NOT work for this. The shaft and flywheel are tapered surfaces, and the flywheel actually stretches around the shaft a bit during installation. To get it off, you must release this energy. Doing so will require a large puller and a lot of torque, OR you can provide a quick, hard SHOCK to release the energy/bond. Hitting the outside edge of the flywheel provides the greatest leverage and works best. Get a 4lb sledge, pick a "blank" spot where no ring gear, friction surface, bolt hole, or dowel pin resides. Line up your hammer, draw back about 18" and SWING. Do this only once at a time. Within 3 swings the flywheel will come loose, unless you swing like a girl.

Hehe. The Sears ones are 3/4" drive though, and I don't want to buy another breaker bar. I haven't seen any 1/2" to 3/4" drive adaptors either.

Yes, sears has 3/4 to 1/2 adaptors..there is a set of 4 various adaptors, and they also sell them individually.
