My first week with my FC.....Whoa!

Okay- I bought my FC a week ago, regretfully!

I thought i knew what to look for, and had waited long enough i thought i found the right one- Had a couple quirks, seemed better than others i had seen. Well, after my first week of owning it, its a ******* fasad (sp?)

I honestly think i need to replace every piece of the susension/steering, as well as the complete driveline. The body, and electronics are great, well until the alternator went out last night on my way home- RIght after it got stuck in second gear

Today i wage war on my new found money pit, i am going in to see exactly what i am getting into, so far my assumptions are just from driving

*edit* can't say regretfully, just had hoped for less problems-

lol, good luck with all the quirks man..... I got my TII for $600 one day just by randomly going through classified ads... It didn't start, had been sitting for a year, and had a flat tire.... lol, took it under my wing since I thought it was just flooded but after tons of **** (local mechanic shop holding it for a month and not knowing what the hell to do with it, then saying they called a national hotline and they said the engine was blown, so i'd need to pay $4000 for a new motor.... lol, screw that... XD) I brought it home and found out that the AFM was loose.... lol, after that it was a coolant hose leak from behind the altenator.... and just recently, my oil cooler line was severed (thanks for the info on the lines, BTW.....) Case in point, there's tons of **** that's bound to come with the FC... but hey, at least the repairs'll keep you busy when you're bored....

Damn i'm a lucky bum. I bought my FC and it's in perfect working order (except the passenger window has problems getting up). Knock on wood.

Same beefhole. That and a quick PD replacement and sunroof. Besides that there are just a few little things that I like to fix.

Well, i wasn't so lucky-

In removing the upper portion of the intake manifold, i found the port closest to firewall is very heavily carboned. The other three are clean (pics coming).Have no clue if this means anything?

There is heavy oil covering the i/c piping fron the turbo to the i/c. Surprising the turbo shaft is very solid, no movement in any directions, spins very easy...shocked!!
When i removed the oil filler neck, seemed a little "milky" I also noticed it was smoking more and more everytime i drove it, i guess it had a temp. fix?

Other than that it needs the things typical for an fc, pilot bearing, shifter bushing, fpd, new bushings everywhere, u-links/driveshaft... I don't think anything has ever been done to this car other than oil/plug changes. I am going to give it a diet, and one helluva "tune up" and she what she does. I am guessing a F&*@&!G rebuild before the end of summer.

I can feel for you.
I've had my TII for 3 weeks now, and it's been parked longer than I've been driving it.

Problems:
1) Battery was weak (flooding due to low starter speed.
2) Replaced battery, flooding due to low starter speed.
3) Replaced Battery terminals. Car starts now like a champ.
4) Power steering works intermittantly, will trouble shoot this after getting some more serious problems taken care of.
5) Rear brake locked up. Disconnected parking brake cable for driver's side. Brakes unlocked, but new rotors, pads and lines ordered to get it back to snuff. Still need new parking brake cable.
6) When freeing up the brake rotors and checking the other side noted that fresh oil was on the strut, confirmed blown shock opposite locked rotor, within 2 days confirmed the other one had blown. Fronts blown during an emergency manuver. Looking for replacement suspension components.
7) Difficulty shifting, turned into not shifting at all and grinding. The assumption is a spring ripped out of the clutch. Was able to limp it home from the track. ACT clutch ordered.

I too, had been hoping for a car with less troubles, but these were all things that I assumed that I would be doing sooner or later. (Emphisis on later tho).

Aside from all the problems, I'm very happy with the car. The chassis is sound, and she looks and drives amazing when she's working right. No regrets here.

My alternator went out on my car the day after I bought it on the way to the 12 Hours fo Sebring ... Had a freind drive from about 40 miles away to bring me his spair .. Drove to sebring and the alt belt broke .. Luckily I was in my way to the Discoutn Autoparts to get a enw one because I had noticed it ...

Then after pulling out onto the street teh heater hose going into the middle plate broke leaking out all my coolant and all this inside a day of buying the car ..

The diff mounts are shot andI think the coolant seals are shot because of the 100shot of Dry Nitrous I sprayed on it for awhile lol ..

After the few things that were wrong were fixed it hasnt been a problem other than the abuse I have caused

LoL, i found my Rx7 vert in a junk yard and traded a perfectly good running car for it. Found out it needed an engine rebuild. Couldn't afford thought, found an S4 engine on the forums and bought it. It's running just fine now, but the top needs to be redone and the seats need to be redone, plus there are some electrical problems, nothing major. So far, i think i've put in about 3K including trade in value of my other car. Also, it needs a little bit of body work, the front bumper will have to replaces (passenger side of the front bumper must have hit something, it's cracked and messed up and doesn't fit correctly anymore, needs to be replaced) and it needs painted. Lots to do, more to go...hehehe, but i love this car!

I put a downpayment on a GXL this week, hopefully I can pay off the rest in a few weeks, it's a GXL, rebuilt with I guess turbo rotors and seals, it's a custom turbo setup, FMIC, SAFC, Upgraded fuel system, MSD Ignition.. only has 2000KM on the new rebuilt engine.. Oh I cant wait to get it and find millions of problems..

Sounds like my civic- I have had it for 5 yrs and have probably close to 20 grand in it- If you count all three motors, maybe more- I originally bought this to be my daily driven replacement since my civic isn't really fun on the street anymore, (or wasn't going to be with this seasons setup ) Now i am in a **** situation because UPS just lost my block ANd i bought another full blown project

If your turboII is driving you nuts, don't ever buy an FD.

Didnt see your sig up top. I just picked one up ('94 white pep) in december. So far its treated me nice. I just did the vacuum lines and HKS DP. Im trying to get all the reliability mods done first and hope it lasts a while.

back on topic:
Have you thought about removing the vaccum rack? It really cleans things up and simplifies everything. Sounds like you're replacing the vacuum lines right now. Use good silicone hose. I used the auto parts kits (~$20) and learned my lesson with them. Most of the hoses closest to the turbo either melted shut or completely burned/melted off. Those kits are good for n/a cars but turbo engines eat them up. Just hang in there with your car. At first its a nightmare but pretty soon you'll have a perfect car and you'll be happy with it. I've owned my share of FCs and even though they suck sometimes, I can't get away from them
