Talking My first RX-7!

Hello everyone thanks for taking a sec to read this. I've been an RX-7 lover since I was about 15 years old. I'm 20 now and have finally been able to purchase my first RX-7. Its an 86 N/A 5spd, but I'm not sure which trim package it is. I think I've figured out its the sports pkg from http://64.9.213.132/rx7club.com/foru...d.php?t=249616 There's no badge on the car to tell me. I guess it was removed when it was repainted, though from the look of it I think its about that time again.

I bought my FC from and RX mechanic in Gainesville Florida, 30 miles north of me, for $1800. It needs paint eventually and a good wash and wax which I'll be more than happy to give it. Its got a very strong running motor w/ 140k on it, hasn't been rebuilt. Everything feels good one it(as far as I can tell) and he was even nice enough to make me a list of everything to look out for and maintanice tips the the 7. He also gave me a 30 day warranty.

One thing I find odd though, is that it has no storage bins, as you can see in the rest of my pics at http://arichase.mypicgallery.com/ I thought all 7's had bins? Except the 2+2. Someone straighten me out. I guess there's nothing to sacrifice now by putting in a back seat. I still have few things to take care of before I get to play with her/it/him on a daily basis. Have to get my license reinstated, some how pay for insurance, all those minor details haha.

Let me know what you all think. Good deal? I think I'm not offically part of the family Thanks guys and gals.

Very nice. Yes, definately a Sport. I See the Aero package which is a Sport give away. You also have the Turbo seats. Do you have power steering or an aluminum hood?

It does have power steering thankfully and the hood is steel and heavy and ****. Okay so its a sport, cool, do I just say I have an 86 FC? Cause its not GXL or GTU right?

Do I have an LSD?

Thanks guys for the positive comments and all the feedback in general.

yes, sport has LSD.

didn't all 5 lug S4's have LSD?

and no, coupe's say FC33 in the VIN, not FC3S, although that is indeed the chassis code.

bignickFC, 1st, why do you keep mentioning 'to the right' ? direction doesn't have anything to do with it.

and 2nd, some open diff cars will still be able to kick the *** out while turning like you said. best way to tell by driving the car would be to put one tire in the gravel, one tire on dry pavement, and then dump the clutch at say.....5500rpm. if both tires keep spinning, congradulations, you have LSD.

uhhh.......no. That's not accurate. I can kick mine out WITHOUT a LSD. Jack the rear of the car up and turn one rear tire. If it's LSD (and working) the other tire will turn the same way. If it's an open diff, when you turn one wheel forward, then the other one will turn backward.

Hmmm.... Lets think about this for a minute. Maintenence possibly, or a brake Job. You might want to inspect things under the car now and then. See, I 'm a fatass that can't squeeze under the car to work on it. 6'0 180lbs of pure fat just can't squeeze under the car.

i thought you could just crawl underneath and look to see if "LSD" was branded on the differential. im probably wrong, i remember somone telling me it was labeled like that before on these cars. Never checked mine, so i don't konw from first hand experience

Sorry, wrong on both counts Bigtardhead. if you look back at the sticky, the only S4's that came with LSD were the GXL, Turbo, and in '88, the GTU. If your sport has an LSD, it was added after the fact. Case in point, my '87 Sport didn't have an LSD. Of course, now it has a diff from an automatic, but that's another story.
