My first oil change

Just got my rebuilt S5 turbo II a couple weeks ago and decided it's time for some new oil.

I was just wondering, since i'm going to be going to an express lube, which oil should I ask for?

5w-30? 20w-50?

And also should I be mixing 2 cycle oil into my gas every fill up? any drawbacks to this?

Thanks in advance

there have been a billion threads about this, but you should probably use either 10w30, or 20w50. I use 20w50 in summer, 10w30 in winter.

yes, you should use 2 stroke oil, there are no drawbacks except for maybe the exhaust smelling a bit. I use 12 oz per fillup, but you can use less if you have a working OMP (oil metering pump)

Have u considered just changing the oil yourself? Its super easy. As far as the the 2 stroke oil in your gas tank.....confirm that your oil metering pump is working properly....if it is, there's really no need to add 2 stroke in w/ the gasoline (putting oil in with the gas is called "pre-mixing"........some ppl do it for peace of mind (even if their OMP is working properly)...others do t bc the OMP is defective, and some purposely eliminate the OMP system altogether for simplicity and pre-mix

I would definitely recommend just changing it yourself... I don't trust most places with my car. (I didn't see that part of you original post)

also, premixing with an OMP isn't that unheard of. some people think it lubricates the apex seals better than just the OMP. A lot of rx-8 guys do it too even though they have more oil injectors they we do.

(also, don't cheap on the oil filter, it's important, don't get a fram )

thanks for all the answers.

I will be learning how to change my own oil because they charged me 50 bucks

So I'm assuming i should put the oil in the gas tank before I fill up right?

I don't understand how some people can remove the omp. We fill up our cars so often it would get just annoyyyying to put oil in everytime.

Newsflash, Jersey gas is cheaper than PA self-serve gas.

I live in NY but I usually try to fill up as much in Jersey as I possibly can.

Luckily for me, I do my fillups close to midnight, and the gas station attendant recognizes the 7, so he lets me pump my own gas. Much easier to do what you want that way, and since Jersey has the fill clips on the trigger that let you set the pump and walk away, it's pretty easy for me.

The only place near Jersey that I've found to have cheaper gas than Jersey is a gas station in Delaware right before the Delaware Memorial Bridge. 'Twas a Mobil, I believe.

As for oil, here's a general rule:

5w30 for starting temperatures below 30 degrees F
10w30 for operating temperatures between 0 degrees F and 80 degrees F
20w50 for starting temperatures above 30 degrees F

That means in Jersey, 10w30 for winter, 20w50 for summer and either for the fall or the spring, depending on the temps encountered.

A place like the northern midwest states or Canada, you'd have to run 5w30 in the winter, 10w30 in the spring and fall and 20w50 in the summer
