my FC is dead :(
I haven't driven the FC in a few weeks...I've tried not to drive it much in the past few months just because I have the GVR4 now and I have a new TII rebuild and conversion ready for my NA. that being said, the last time I drove it a couple weeks back it started right up but it felt like it started on half the motor. I shut it down and restarted it and it was fine...it idled up and down smoothly and made good power etc... I just went to drive it to the shop today for a wash and it took me forever to get it started!! after about 20 minutes with my handy vice wrapped in wire tape to crimp the fuel line (it was flooded) I got it started and it ran fine. this motor has never had a flooding problem so I can't see it being the injectors. the oil conrol rings aren't great and motor honey has kept the car alive (1 bottle at each oil change) and driving normally without smoke for 4 years!! anyway, during the drive I do get some oil-smoke on decel and it begins to get worse. the, the car starts to overheat a bit (very weird) but the temps come right down once I'm moving and I'm not burning coolant or boiling over. since i've only driven about 300 miles in the last 3 months with this car I thought maybe the thermostat was stuck. another 20 minutes in the car and all is well...driving smooth, idling well and the smoke has cleared. I pull into my house and the car just BARFS oil-smoke and starts to run really really rough. then it stalls...I start it up but it feels like its running on one rotor and stalls again. I start it again and rev the car to clear any oil/gas on the plugs and the car breaks up a bit, then smooths out and it's fine. then after a few minutes of idling the temps come up a bit and the car runs rough again and stalls. I start it AGAIN and it's all breaking up and backfiring all over the place. it stalls again but then I can't get it started!! it cranks just fine and sounds totally normal (i know what a rotary sounds like on half a motor, I've blown one before). so, I think compression is fine and I guess it's an ignition problem. I think one of the coil packs is shot so I get my spares from my basement and swap the coils...no good. then I swap air flow meters. no good. the only way to start the car is by limiting it's fuel and crimping the line. on my last motor, the car would start with the crimped line and stall once it burned all the fuel it had. you remove the vice and the car would start just fine. when I remove the vice now, it just cranks and wont start back up unless the fuel line is crimped. plus, when it does start with the crimped line it's all broken up and nasty. i think i'm just going to let the car sit for a few weeks and have it flatbedded to my friends RX-7 shop nearby for the TII conversion. i wonder if the motor is really blown, but I don't see the point it spending any time/money fixing it if this engine is coming out anyway. I have the following parts for the swap:
-kevin landers rebuild/streetport (complete TII conversion, all sensors, wiring etc...)
-walbro 255 fuel pump
-GReddy FMIC and boost/EGT gauges
-HKS downpipe
The parts that will remain on the car are:
-Apexi dual N1 w/ 2.5 inch racepipe
-my NA tranny and racing beat aluminum flywheel with centerforce DF clutch
The only funny part about all of this is that the clock in the idiot light display worked during todays drive for the first time in a year AND the time was correct!!!

Anyway, good luck to you on the motor. And, CONGRATS on the clock/idiot lights.
BTW, I have no idea how in the hell the clock could be pumping out the correct time, UNLESS you started her up at 12:00....

Well, I assume the clock was always keeping time but the display wasn't working until today. I'll let you all know how the swap goes down as soon as I get my bonus at work in a couple of weeks.
