My FC......
Location: 101 Freeway
Time: around 4 in the afternoon
Date: 12-24-05
Gear: 5th
Speed: 80mph
Water Temp: 87 degrees
Exhaust Temp: 790 Degrees
Boost: 10 lb.
I lightly pressed the gas pedal, and I noticed a "clink" sound coming from the engine bay. The car started to slow down even with my foot on the gas pedal. I knew something bad had just happened.
I carefully parked the car in a private parking lot in Thousand Oaks. Left a note with my phone number and name in case of people calling the cops. Because it was Christmas eve, none of the shops were open. There were absolutly no help. I left the car there over night and over Christmas. I contacted Miguel from RMJ Motorsports.
The day after Christmas, I drove the car to the shop to get a diagonostic and see what happened. We pulled out the brand new spark plugs out and one of them were completely black at the bottom, which means I broke an apex seal on the rotor. The reason that it broke is because the air temp. was too high. And the reason that the air temp. is high is because the stock intercooler wasn't efficient enough for the boost.
My options are very limited right now. Miguel is moving his shop the end of January, so they can't do any work right now. We are not sure if the engine is still under warranty from Mazda until Miguel calls tomorrow. As a result, I am going to be "car-less" for a while.
After all the money, time, and effort I spent, suddenly it's all gone. I'm depressed, worried, and exahusted. I'm almost to a point that I want to give up and sell the car and forget about drifting, racing, cars.......
but.......I won't, I won't give up.....I will make my FC alive again. I did it once, I can do it again.

how do you know you blew a rear apex? just becuase your spark plug was black at the bottom doesnt mean you blew an apex seal. my spark plugs always got blacker than black and the car ran perfectly. unless the car drove like complete **** and shook really bad when driving wich you did not mention. but man, that sucks bro.

There is a thread on this forum titled 400hp on stock intercooler. So I doubt it's due to an inefficient intercooler. Besides excess carbon on your spark plug does not denote apex seal failure. Have a compression test done before you make any assumptions.

Unless your referring to the thread about an FD on ebay with a T78 pushing 395HP with an FD stock intercooler that has never been revved past 4500rpm except for 2 dyno pulls...
I highly doubt an FC stock intercooler will allow your to get anywhere near 400HP, its flow rate is far too low. Its also said that its ineficient over 12psi especially in the stock location.
str84wardchuck, Don't give up! Rebuild that bitch and make it better than ever! That is if it is blown of course.
