My door wont open!

Yesterday I was leaving a bar after the Raider game, and my door just wouldn't open. I thought the outside handle had broken so I tried to open it from the inside. But that must be broken too. So I just can't open the door. There's obviously a problem in the door, but if I can't open it, how can I get to it? How can anyone get to it? What should I do, where should I take it? That car is way too small to be climbing over the consol, in the rain, everytime I need to get in or out. HELP!!

This happened to my car. Try lifting up on the door handle as you pull it open. My door slipped down for some reason and it did the same thing.

See if you can take out the doorpanel with the door closed. If you can more then likly something in your linkage broke. If its eletric then you might have a shoort somewhere thats stoping your door from opening, although i dont see why that would affect you opening it with a key.

Maybe it's locked?

Seriously, the lock is probably stuck.

It locks and unlocks, the damn door just wont open. Yeah, I would just go Dukes of Hazzard except that I'm in L.A. with rain and hail the size of ice cubes. When it stops raining I'll just drop the top and leave the windows down. That should be fun.

my 88 did this exact thing to me.. i had to crawl in from the hatch
more than likely your door handle is broken. there is a little L shaped fork that uses it self as a lever when you pull up on the handle, this pushes on a rod that uses downward force to realease a hook that clamps into the circular thing in the doorjam.. .. . heres what you do.. take off the inside door panel, and get a socket driver with a 12mm i believe and unhook the two nuts that hold the doorhandle in place. after you pull the doorhandle out, disconnect it to the unlocking rod and the door opening rod. the rod that is used to open the door is bent 45 degrees and is thicker than the locking mechanism. after you remove the door handle from the outside just push down on the main rod and the door will detach.
if it doesn not work then the door maybe locked. and if it still doesnt work then the door locking mechanism is broken and the door is stuck shut. even though your car wont have door handles, you can still get in and out by using the mechanism until you do get doorhandles

This is similar to my current situation. I think a spring fell out of mine. We took the door panel part-way off (as far as possible with the door closed) and pryed that L shaped thing up and the door opens. Sometimes it even resumes normal operation after this, but as soon as you lock the door, it goes back to square one. So im assuming there is a spring missing that returns it to unlock mode. Im gonna take the drivers door panle off and compare the 2 to see whats missing.

The Raiders are my favorite team. After losing again, and leaving from a bar, the car was obviously making a statement: Pick a new team! hehehehhehe.

My door panel is off right now, will send photos tomorrow at what your facing if you like?

Mine is also 90 vert.

PEACE THE DOG

time to check the linkage.. most likely a plastic piece broke.. Its a PITA to replace but better than crawling to the other door.. My FC door did this when i had to get gas. So embarrasing.
