My DIY paint job FC

It used to be champaign and as you can tell it's now black, I think it turned out pretty sharp. I only have one pic while I was in the process that's after the base before I out on clear.

That looks awesome! I would like to do my own to save some $$$. How hard is it, how much did it cost you and how long did it take?

I already had a compressor borrowed a hplv paint gun and a mask, what I bought was all the paint including adhesion promoter and flexfill was $380 tax included and I bought a dual action sander ~$50 and a buffer $30 then a bunch of sand paper and polishing compound. Everything went basically as expected until I got to the clear coat stage I couldn't get a nice smooth flat finish so I wetsanded it all afterwards to 2000 grit and then polished out the scratches. There has to be a better way because that took as much work at the rest of the paint job. Including me screwing up a couple times and redoing stuff it took me like 2 weeks. If I was to do it again it would take 2 days to setup the garage take everything apart sand everything mask and prime, then the next day wet sand to 600 clean and base then you could do the clear on the same day or leave it to another day. I'd buy a good rotary buffer and pro buffing/cutting compounds and probably take at least a day to get everything how you want. If you do it like I did with wetsanding the clear it'll take you minimum a long tough day just to wetsand the whole car then you got to buff the hell out of it so another day really probably more like 3 days combined for wetsanding and buffing. Then of course if you screw anything up and have to sand it all down and start again the time really adds up. That last step there has to be a better way to do it because it was way too much work I think with a good rotary buffer and pro compounds you might be able to do that quickly.

I did the door jambs and the trunk but didn't bother with the engine bay you really need to have the engine pulled to do that properly.
