is my differential junk?

the car runs fine during acceleration or constant speed, but it makes a terrible metal on metal sound durring deceleration, noise is coming from rear of the car, it does this in all gears except reverse for some reason, right before coming to a stop it begins to really slow the car down and makes a slight "thud thud thud". turning makes no difference, and i just changed out the diff. oil. help me fix my car =(

Make sure its not something stupid, like wheel hitting brake line or the dust shield getting in the way.

To check wheel bearings jack up the car and try to wiggle the wheel back and forth. If it moves they are bad.

I thought wheel bearings usually make a noise when you turn though, so it may not be it.

Doesn't sound like differential to me (not that I know a whole lot about 'em). I mean, I ain't no expert on cars, but anything that makes noise during deceleration... I'd think its brakes?

theres no play in the hub when jacked up, and the brakes all have new pads etc, and arent much more than warm to the touch after driving it, so im pretty sure it cant be the brakes. if it was my ring and pinion gear wouldn't there be any metal shaving in the old oil? just to eliminate that..
