My checklist for my '88 GTU.

Kinda like a "keep myself in line" thread..and you guys can comment if you feel. I'm sure most, if not all, have been discussed here..like I said, I might ask for some help later on...but as of now, it's a *tell everybody what my poor $900 *ripoff * vehicles problems are!

1.) Gotta rebuild/get a lower milage transmisison in there.

2.) Need a new windshield...silly cracks.

3.) Need to get my fuel injectors clean..the dreaded flooding problem D:

4.) Sunroof needs repaired somehow. Everybody has the problem of they need to start to push it and it works the rest of the way. Well, my passenger side of it gets stuck all the time...and it won't go down sometimes...no matter what..Gotta work it for at least 20 minutes before it slides in. I'm sure I'll think of something. I have until summer anyway

5.) Body work. The body is horrendous. Needs alot of work.

That's all I can think of in a short amount of time. Now lets just hope I can get this done within a years time...here's to hoping.

1.) My tranny was replaced shortly before I bought the FC =)
2.) No cracks here but I have acid rain damage on all my glass =(
3.) Stock injectors are working but I also plan to have the new ones for my turbo swap cleaned

4.) The sunroof.. why I really wanted to comment. Mine sticks too, but it was MUCH worse before I cleaned the tracks.

When you have some time, and are parked, work with it to open it as much as you can and clean the tracks out the best you can. It's probably a good idea to relubricate it with something but I don't know what to use for that.. I just cleaned most of the dirt and buildup out of mine and it made a huge difference. I didn't even know it would open as far as it does before I cleaned that. I eventually need to figure out how to remove it so I can clean the tracks completely.

5.) Yeah.. body work is on my list too, but after all my other planned upgrades. =)

Good luck.

I tell him, I'll just have them take it out, rebuild a tranny, and have them mount it again. He's being a baby about it, etc etc. I'm sorry, I want it done right and in a timely manner, and if we do it, somethings bound to go wrong, trust me, I know my luck..lotsa mirrors busted in my earlier days :O Any suggestions?

Stock injectors are working but I also plan to have the new ones for my turbo swap cleaned.A friend told me that I'd be just as fine cleaning it myself, though from looking around, people are saying you can't beat a professional job done on the injector cleaning...am I right in assuming I heard correctly from you all?

I have cleaned it out, and I've put a sort of lube on it, and it didn't really help at all... I might try cleaning it again..hopefully I missed something small that's messing it up hardcore.

Thanks..I need the luck

Just remembered..
6.) Fix whatever problem I'm having with the Clutch. I keep hearing metal clanking sounds when I'm letting the clutch out. I assume it's the fried clutch plate, as I'm told..but I wouldn't know

For the sunroof. It's a bitch, but if you remove the headliner and cover your seats and floor you can really clean the tracks with Brake fluid or carb cleaner. If you want the best go for electronic contact cleaner. It dries really fast and has less odor. It would be best to take out your drive motor and clean it as well, only with contact cleaner. then lube it all up with a real lubricant, not WD-40. I used the Mobile 1 spray lube. Nearly a new sunroof. That car has been stored for over a year, over Christmas I got out there to prep her for work in the spring. Sunroof still works great.
Good luck.

Do I need to take the sunroof off somehow, or can I just open it up all the way and go to town?

Ok, well later today *It's 4 AM...goin around 1 PM..* to find out how much it will cost to get my tranny replaced.

Quick question, if they rebuild a tranny or get a new one somehow, and put it in there, do they change ou the clutch too, or is it something I need to ask for them to do it?

Just curious since my clutch plate is fried..might as well fix them both at the same time.
