My car won't start, FC noob :\

So I've been driving my FC for about 2 weeks now, it's a 1990 GXL, and it's been doing pretty good, it's been running really rich, but besides that and the TPS acting up, there hasn't been any real problem, I got home from driving it around 2 days ago and it's been sitting since then, I got in it today to go to work, and it just won't start, I turn the key and it makes noise like it's trying to start(like a rum-rum-rum-rum) but it just won't turn over, I'm not sure possible issues, I know the previous owner said there was trouble starting but he sealed something like the gas tank and it didn't have that problem any more, would that be the issue if the seal went bad or something? Or would it be something else?

edit: I let it try to start for about 10 seconds should I try letting it go for more?

Do you mean the motor is turning over but won't fire? Or is it not turning over at all?

it could be your battery. Same thing happens to me when i let it sit for 3 days, I always have to get it jump started.

Try pulling the egi fuse(second closest to engine). Crank it over for a few seconds without it. Now put it back in and try starting it again. Could have leaky injectors.

Okay, well I got her started but had to run straight to work(this is before I tried any suggestions), I was turning her and the more gas I gave her the more she sounded like she was coming to life, After about 10 minutes of trying to crank it and a few sputters near the end, she fired up.

Turned it off, and tried it again, started no problem. Went to work, started again fine after work. But, it's been running rich ever since I had it, but no big problem, but it seems to be doing some weird stuff now, constant backfire, used to it only really backfired when I ran it hard, but now it seems like everytime I shift gears, and when I let off the gas and have the clutch in it sputters as the RPMs fall(not sure if it always did this or I was just being paranoid driving it home). I'm not sure if it was just it working off the extra fuel that I dumped into it by trying to start it for 10 minutes or what.

Is there anything anyone can really think of as to be what is going bad? Also, should I let it sit a few more days and see if it has the same problem?

You might have a vacuum leak... my car backfired alot when one of the lines on the spider thing under the UIM cracked... check for vacuum leaks... I also you did say your TPS is messed up... that could be the problem also...

u should find out why you are running rich,
the other thing is, it seems like it was flooded before, and u said u gave it "gas" right?

the factory procedure of un-flooding is to HOLD the gas pedal on the floor, not PUMPING it and then crank, u will slowly hear the engine getting better actually....
always worked for me... sometimes i pull the EGI too, but i never needed to put ATF or motor-oil in the plug holes.....(knock on wood)

search for flooding, and i think it may possiblely be leaky injectors too, so check those out

I already have a new TPS on the way, I'll check the injectors and for vacuum leaks when I get a chance, and something else that may be tied to the problem; whenever i get it up to 7krpm it just crawls after that, I'm not sure if it's just running too rich and is killing itself from too much gas past 7k.

Also, I thought to lien it out I just need to hook something up and adjust it, but when you say, "find out why it's running rich" does that mean that it's more than just the fact I need to hook something up and I need to lien it out?
