Angry my car wont start

Please somebody help. I have a 89 mazda rx7 gxl model. besides a few electrical problems my car ran good. Last week I went to change the air pump belt because it was wearing thin. After changing the belt with no problem. my car wouldnt start. it sounds like it tries to start but it wont turn over i was told the engine had no compression left in it. I cant take it anymore. I dont want to buy a new engine. everything was fine until I replaced a 5 dollar belt. I have no transpertation 2 and from school and or work except my mom and Im gonna go crazy. please somebody help me.

The engine won't even turn over?

If it had poor compression it would still turn over fine. This is gonna sound retarded, but did you tighten the belt too much or something? I can't see how that would keep the engine from turning over, but it's the only thing I can think of.

Maybe it is flooded???

I think it should still turn over if it's flooded though.

Is it possible that you knocked the plug off the air flow meter while doing the belt? Rectangular plug on a 86-88. Not sure on yours. Also look for vacuum line knocked off.

The car will still turn over and start if the AFM isn't plugged in. I know from experience. :p

MYKL....how long did it run? Serious question. On the 86-88 if wired as the original equip, and not been fooled with, the schematic shows that the fuel pump will not work with the plug off the mass air flow meter. You have a 89(I think)which may be different. 86-88, no way. If I'm wrong please let me know. No problem. Thats why I put 86-88 in my reply. Never touched an above 88. I gather the newer models do not use the same afm. They have some kind of sliding device instead of a door. Saw it described on some post at one time. I see RENT A HERO has a 89. Should have kept my fingers at rest. Sorry RENT A HERO, MYKL.

Well, the first time it happened it blew all kinds of crazy white smoke. It was actually kinda neat because some of the smoke was comming out of the exhaust shapped like rings.

It ran like ****, then I figured out that I forgot to plug the AFM back in, then it ran like normal again.

I'm not sure how long it ran for, but it didn't show any signs of quitting.

Mykl......Irv wrote me and told me I was wrong. He pointed out to me on my 87 that as long as the key is held to the start position the fuel relay will be pulled in. Let off the starter and the relay will drop out. Then the fuel relay is dependent on the switch thru the air fuel meter. Like I say, 87 model. Thanks for getting me straightened out on that. Live and learn. Oh, Irv also told me that your model car does not have that micro switch in the afm for the fuel circuit, so that would explain why your car would keep running whereas my 87 would not keep running for more than a second or two. Thanks again.
