I ordered a new starter, picking it up and installing it tomorrow.
It cost me 176 bucks for a brand new one Can't wait to get it installed!
btw: Pulled out the spark plugs. They were dry.
Also picking up an Optima red top batt tomorrow.
She'll be up and running real soon! yay!

Jesus is the Messiah
Quit being so pessamistic!
If its whining like that, the absalute best chance is that it is the starter.
You people with flooded cars just want everyone else to suffer :p
RedShayla: You say you're not used to working on cars, so you get a safety speech! Make sure somone is outside the car while you're under it (In case something goes wrong)
And if those starter bolts (Theres two of em) are in too tight, you can always stick the end of the ratchet through a pipe to give you more torque.
While you have the thing out, remember these cars are starting to get a little old and you might want to check the wires going to the starter for corrosion. I found mine was corroded, replaced it, and now my car starts with a 'flick of the wrist'
If all goes well, replacing the starter is an easy fix. Good luck.

It may not only be the solinoid. It could be the brushes, or something else in the starter that has worn out. Usually getting a worn starter to work again is to "give it some love" with a hammer :-).
So, replacing the starter is a good idea.

And also, replacing the starter is a good way for me to learn, and i REALLY want to learn!
Plus, I already bought a brand new one for her, so she wont have the 13yo one in her. heh.
only prob is, my garage is really small. I'm saving money up for a new house that has either a 2 car garage or a 4 car garage. The one i have now is WAY too small!

I am guessing that the proyblem is not the starter it is infact low compresion the reason why they start to flood in the first place. Because the apex and side seal do not seal as well when they tired the rx7s motor is easy to flood. I can put money on it if it doenst start and its a little colder out side and its a RX7 it is flooded. To deflood the motor it is really simple pull you injector fuse and then take leading plugs out crank motor over let the gas leave the combustion area then inject some automatic transmission fluid and rotate motor by with the alt belt and plugs out to distribute the sealing power ATF and then put plugs in and start the bastard I do it all the time even a dead car will start it wont idle as soon as it warms up but it will they will always start

I had another car do that... and sometimes it needed a good whack with a hammer, and sometimes the battery was just dead. Takes all kinds. The car in question is not an RX, not a Mazda, not even Japanese... it was a Triumph Spitfire. But hey, effectively all cars operate on the same principles.

It's not too rainy today. hrm.. A neighbor of mine (who also loves RX-7s), is letting me borrow his jackstands, so I'll be putting the starter in anyway.
Yeah, I tried the EGI fuse trick, and it didnt work. But after whacking the starter, she started right up!
She prolly wasn't flooded right? I mean, i pulled the spark plugs and they were dry. But i could be wrong, as im a newbie.
Anyway, I'm hungry! Going to get something to eat!
Merry X-mas everyone ! Or happy solstice! Happy holidays! heh

I thought it was too until she said that. Kinda wierd that the starter made noise but it wouldnt fire up like that....usually the hammer trick works if the starter isnt cranking at all...
