my car makes a weird poping noise PLS HELP!!!

when i was driving my rx7 yesterday night, i seen this prelude and i raced it. i tached the car to 8000 rpm then shifed into 2nd. when i clutched it made a POP sound. also when i was in 2nd going about 60 and i let go of the gas to hang a corner. when i let go of the gas it made about 2 poping noise. i think the POP noise was a backfire. but im not sure. so can somebody tell me what it was and is it bad for the car.
thanks

After letting off the gas, you're getting raw gas into the exhaust with the explosion occuring somewhere in the system/mufflers. Stock exhaust and cats? Engine seems fine at idle etc?

that sound is your apex seals breaking. you blew your motor....

j/k, its just backfiring. NAs run rich, so you will hear poping all the time when you let off the gas or downshift. this is amplified if you have an aftermarket exhaust or gutted cats

If everything stock and it runs, acts, idles fine as you say, and has never done it before, I'd check the plugs first. The car will run rich, but if all stock it shouldn't backfire unless some mechanical problem exists.

stock RX-7's still back fire alot. mine lets out 3 quite loud back fires when i let off at 7500 then sometimes just a few small ones..

LOL i think you should worry if your 15 year old RX didn't backfire at higher Rpm's

it's it's too too much could it be your timing is off a bit??

does it accelerate smoothly?? does it bog or hesitate??

does it lack power or does it still pull strong??

You could have popped a hole in your exhaust.

How do you know what RPM's you're at when your tach doesn't work???
You should've started another thread.
