Question My car is a fudge monkey...

So I have been waiting on my new MAF for a week now and i finally got my tracking number from the guy on ebay. so it should be here in a few days. when i get it installed i hope my car will run like it should. it runs like new except i cannot give it more than half throttle past 4K RPMs. and it gets progressively worse the longer i drive. if i park and let it rest for 5-10 minutes the cycle repeats. please tell me thats my MAF sensor, because if not i will **** bricks and then proceed to blow my brains out.

I really dunno, but have you had your fuel filter changed recently? I had a problem where I couldn't give it any gas past about 1/3rd throttle + it would sputter like a ****. Changed out the fuel filter + she runs great now. I watched all the rust chunks fall out of the old filter when I was changing it. It's a cheap fix + good maintenance too.

clogged injectors?

maf will still do that tho......right before mine took a ****, it would not rev past 4.5k ish and was really rough and stumbly. New maf solved that problem.

Check plugs and wires too.

Sounds more like fuel than timing tho.

Like you said, suicide always is a reliable means in fixing probably a 40 dollar issue.

It could be a number of things. They way to fix it is not to take stabs in the dark; especially not when dealing with fudge monkeys

What year is the car? Do you have any Check Engine Lights? 1-2 years of sitting in a rusty tank could clog a filter, but my guess would be either:

a- clogged catalytic converter
b- limp mode
c- vacuum leak
d- fudge monkeys in the engine (dont eat chocolate when working on your car.)

well, i have new plugs and wires, and a straight pipe(which is not plugged), and it has a new fuel filter but the stale gasoline was NOT drained from the tank so it may have gone through. my car is an 86 GXL, i was a single owner car until 3 weeks ago when i bought it, it was a garage kept weekend car. it is flawless. only 129k miles. it definitely not fudge monkeys, i shot the bastards the last time they came near my car lol. but how do you know if it is in limp mode?

NOT Limp mode,an 1986 car does not go into limp mode.
Check your fuel filter again. Also check the Fuel sock.If it has been sitting in Stale gas for 2 years, then I would replace that also.(Lift Carpet in back hatch on the floor, see the screws there? That Plate?Unscrew them, you can access the tank from there.).

Which filter are you talking about? I bought an 88 vert last summer and it stuttered and lost power at times, especially after cornering. I replaced the high pressure fuel filter in the engine bay, no better.
I had no idea there was a low pressure filter at the base of the fuel pump, the Haynes manual shows it on a diagram, but does not mention it in the text as far as I can see. Someone told me about it, referred to the "sock"
So I pulled the fuel pump assembly from the tank and the plastic filter was discoloured so full of some invisible crap that it actually held gasoline. So I got a new one and it solved the problem. I just bought a spare one as they are only 20 bucks and I fear they might be discontinued as a part by Mazda, then we are screwed. I think I'll remove the tank and get it cleaned when I put the car up for the winter.
