my car almost killed me (headlights turned off)

so im driving down a road on my way home, about 30mins ago, and my headlights just die (the fuse blew) so i pull over and swap the retractor and headlight fuses and go on my way. no further then a mile down the road it blows again while im doing 40mph around a turn on some dark road. luckily i know these roads like the back of my hand but still it scared the **** outa me. anyways what the heck could be causing my headlight fuse to blow. i have touched anything electrical in my car in a long long time.

heh that's nothing, I was driving on a scenic highway doing 50 where I was 5 feet from a cliff edge that dropped 200 feet and into a lake, and my headlights just died. it was like 1am with absolutely no ambient light.

my problem turned out to be a short, but the fuse wasn't blowing, the headlights would just turn on and off on their own accord.

I would look at the harness going to the headlights themselves to see if they have become freyed on a piece of bodywork or something.

No, the headlight relay and the dimmer relay are just for the headlight circuit.

Could the headlight switch be causing this? It's been known to do some funky things when going bad...

You visually checked the entire wiring run from both headlights back? Especially the areas where the wiring feeds through a hole in the frame or substructure? There are a lot of those instances...

Swap a new headlight bulb in also- the filament can break and "short" itself in most bulbs...Do the light(s) get a little brighter before they crap out on ya?

If it still blows the fuse, swap the new bulb in the other location (or just get 2 new ones to begin with)...

This is after you've thoroughly gone over the wiring...
