My Car Is About To Be Totalled
I NEED HELP BECAUSE MY CAR IS ABOUT TO BE TOTALED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY. MY CAR WAS IN A VERY BAD HAIL STORM DEC.23 AND MY CAR IS IN PRETTY BAD SHAPE. I OWN A 1989 GTUS WITH 155,000 ORIGINAL MILES I HAD A NEW MOTOR INSTALLED ABOUT A YEAR AGO ALL NEW SUSPENSION ABOUT A WEEK AGO JIC EXHAUST 2 WEEKS AGO NOT TO MENTION ALL THE OTHER STUFF I HAVE DONE TO THE CAR. MY INSURANCE COMPANY IS TRYING TO SAY THAT THEY CANNOT FIND A GTUS IN THERE DATA BASE SO THEY RATE MY CAR AS A GTU OR COUPE . DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN LOOK TO PROVE TO THEM THAT THERE WAS ONLY 100 OF THESE CARS MADE AND THAT THE VALUE IS ALOT MORE THAN 2500.00. PLEASE HELP ME

tell them to go to "KBB.com" aka Kelly Blue Book...they are somewhat the standard in used automobile pricing and are used by almost all insurance companies and also by the car dealerships when accepting trade ins etc... hope it helps! and YES they do have GTUs on the website.

Depending on the damage he might be able to fix it. Only part that would be hard maybe is the roof. FCs don't have very much on the rear half of the car to even be hit. Oh and I think it was more than 100 made, wasn't it like 1000 or something?

Yeah, once the car is totalled, buy it back from them and fix it with a new hood, glass, careful bondo and paintwork. I know, bondo is weight that you don't want added. But it is either that or give up your baby!

Haven't we ALL heard this
Whew, that sucks man. They can't do it with paintless dent removal?
How are you going to tell your insurance company about the value of the engine, suspension, and exhaust? Do you have reciepts?

That sucks. My previous T2 was totaled about a year ago. I bought it back for $400 and fixed it for $300. The rest of the 3k was mine also, don't forget the other 3k that my lawyer got me just for going to a chircoprator. .. i love this country. bad thing, later that year, I had flooding issues and blew an apex and sold it.

This is why you should *always* have your car appraised. It may make your insurance go up, but well worth it incase this happens. They say "well its worth this", you say "well **** you, i have it appraised at this value. I dont care what another car that was not mine is worth" .

They are going to pay out a total between the BB value and what it would cost to replace it in the real world, stock that is (street value). It’s a bummer a lot of insurance companies don’t care and when it comes to older cars everyone (car companies, insurance companies, the Gov.) would like to see them off the road anyway. Fight the power and if you can’t win just buy it back. Sorry bud, good luck.

Insurance claim
As a former insurance adjuster, I can tell you a little known secret. Tell the insurance company that you don't want the money. Tell them you want an LKQ switchout. LKQ stands for like kind and quality. They should put you in touch with someone like National Auto Brokers. NAB will do the legwork to find you another car like yours. If the quality is NOT the same (suspension, engine, etc.), the insurance company will pay you an adjusted difference and give you the other car.
However, since you have a fairly unique RX7, even NAB may come up dry. In that case, take a long, hard look at your car and try to determine if it can be brought back. They are doing wonders with paintless dent repair these days. Your insurance company will probably offer to kiss you if you want to retain the salvaged vehicle and just take the money. They get very little for salvage and it's a PITA to dispose of a car due to the paperwork involved.
Best of luck. Let us know how you come out.

Ok, heres the deal. I get in alot of accidents and ALWAYS carry full coverage. I'm a magnet for ******** that have no idea how to drive.
I've always had USAA and my girlfriend goes through statefarm. Both companies have always reimbursed me for the money I put into the car AS LONG AS YOU KEEP RECIEPTS. What they DO NOT give you money for is stock for stock replacements to keep the car running. I've had a Vr6 Gti, and an SLC Corrado. Both have had at least a few thousand tacked on for mods, (which i later went to the junkyard with prior auth. from the adjuster who evaluted the car to determine it totaled, and pulled the mods off.) and they have reimbursed me for every penny. The shitty part is that they WILL NOT reimburse you for labor that was incurred on the installation or fabrication of the parts installed.
A rebuilt engine would not be reimbursed. The cost to street port the engine, for example, would be reimbursed. Check into it. Ask your claims rep for the insurance companies. I'm 19, and I'm on my 7th car.
1989 Chevy Scottsdale full ton pick up. --- Totalled by an *******
1994 VW Jetta 2.0 - Sold
1997 VW Vr6 GTI - Totalled by woman on her cell Phone
1992 Corrado SLC Vr6 - Totalled by drunk driver.
1988 Mazda Rx7 GXL - PRISTINE AND STAYING THAT WAY
1989 VW Jetta WE - Slid into ditch and cracked the block (Xmas 2k2)
2001 Nissan Frontier - Daily driver and parts Hauler.
*remember, I'm friggin 19 and have been driving for THREE years*
