A good chirp/slip is all that is needed to clean the surface of the tires. A burnout will heat street tires too much - only slicks need a certain temp to be effective. This is why you see road racers swerving around on their warm up lap, to get their slicks up to temps evenly.

 

roadrace tires are very different from drag racing slicks.

jon88se, go to the track and do a 20 second burnout on your street tires then launch. i GUARANTEE it will be a better launch (all other things equal) than just chirping your tires and rolling up to the line. heating up almost ANY kind of rubber tire is going to make it stickier (read: grab better when launching) hence j-rat doing a 20 second burnout on his hard-as-hell USED yokohama POS tires that he bought shortly before going to the track and launching a 1.8 60ft.

 

But have you guys compared to times run when NOT burning out on the same tire? What I'm saying is that slicks need heat to work properly. Street tires do not. All you're really doing is taking life off the tire, heating it up and raising the pressure. I speak from personal experience. I'm not knocking you guys, friendly debate

 

I agree with you. Although, I wouldnt call what he did a burnout at all. He just spun them a few times, which is perfectly acceptable to clean any dirt, oil, moisture, etc off... For drag slicks or even drag radials you want to sit there for a few seconds to heat them up. He didnt come close to putting any significant amounts of heat into those tires.

 

Put it this way, for a street tire burnout there really shouldn't be any smoke IMHO. Slicks are designed to be sticky at those temps, street tires are not. A few slips/chirps is all it takes.

ok i wasnt running full slicks, just nitto streets,i drove thru the water, therefore needed to dry them off from water, dirt etc etc..next time i go i will be running 16psi and full goodyear slicks...there you see a burnout...heh

 

Looks really really nice Eric. Sounds great ripping down the strip, at only 7 psi no less. Glad you stayed in the game after your experience with the last fc......can't wait to see the 1/4 times and traps

 

Ah so it was you at Kennedale that my friend saw. He was out there that night in his blue-green nissan sentra SE-R because he just got his intake installed. He said that your car was fast as hell lol.
