Are my bearings ok?
Hello there. I am in the process of rebuilding my engine, and I got the FULL rebuild kit from Atkins Rotary, that has everything except the oil control ring springs. Anyways, now that I have all my parts completely cleaned, I was wondering if I could get some advice on my bearings. I took pics of my old ones, and I was hoping someone out there might be able to tell me if they look like they need to be replaced? I am going to check the clearances tomorrow morning, but:
Here's the bearing on the small stationary gear:

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
Theyre beginning to get some wear on them, but I say use them...we just had a similar thread/argument about a month ago from rpeck's rebuild. With a couple of no-name exceptions, the resounding answer was to reuse original bearings unless theyre pretty worn out. These are just beginnig to show wear. Id say they had 125-175k on them?

heheh 167K miles, good guess! The thing is, the kti I ordered had new bearings in it, and I didnt know the useage these things can tolerate... so I do have all the new bearings, and it'd cost me $80 to have them put in.... but I worry that the I might end up under the MINIMUM clearance between the eshaft.....then I'd really be stuffed....

There might be an underlying "problem" that might not be obvious to most people.  These bearings are designed to last 300,000+ on an engine that has been properly used and maintained.  The "shot" bearings (i.e. first three) show obvious signs of the underlying copper material in very localized wear patches - this is a sure sign of overreving or inferior/old oil.  Whatever the case, it sure looks like an abused engine in my book.  I would try and "mic" the eccentric shaft journals to see if you can detect an out-of-round journal - this means the eccentric shaft is junk.
"Ideal" wear of the bearings would be very even wear all around.  The "jigsaw joint" in the bearing would be the FIRST area where you should see the underlying copper start to show - in fact, slight copper showing at this joint is normal, and the bearing is still okay to be reused.  There are pics which show this joint to be "perfect", which also makes me suspicious that the engine was abused.
