MY AE Progress report

Well my old man finally brought my car down Friday at 6 pm. I got cracking on it right away. I printed out the disassembly section of the shop manual and went to town. I worked till about 2 am Friday, got up at 11 on Sat. spent all day cleaning the parts I took off and finishing up the prep for engine removal. Rented a cherry picker today and popped the engine out. Everything went very smooth except for the damn wiring harness! The book says, “Remove engine wiring harness” LOL that’s a joke the damn wires go everywhere! You have to take the manifold off to get to the wires on the injectors and such and the book mentions nothing of disassembling all this before pulling it. That put a careful 3 Hr damper on the project… but I got it.

Anyways my rebuild kit has been ordered, and I plan to disassemble the rest of the engine this week in between work & GF stuff. I am going to take it to Sacramento this week and get a stage 2 street port done ($400) kinda pricey but I don’t want to **** anything up doing that myself.

This whole project has been a blast so far! I am pumped that I got the Car Friday at 6pm and had the engine out by Sunday at 6pm … did it all myself, and this is my first RX rebuild attempt ever. I have a daily driver 87 N/A but I have done nothing more than tranny, and clutch changes on that. I will keep you all posted on progress its going to be one Badass machine when I get done. I am replacing EVERYTHING! I have taken a few pics, but I don’t have a digital so I gotta get them developed, and scanned before I can post them.

ahh one more thing. those injectors are a pain in the *** to get too so I was thinking i will pop in my 720 secondaries while I got this all disasembled. They should not affect my passing smog should they? being that they are secondaries.

Wish me more good luck,

Robert

Ya, I know : ) I am going to replace it. Does anyone know the "Autozone/Kragen" name for these things. Autozone has a great web page lists all the parts they carry, or can order and I don't see one of these listed? Is it a OEM Mazda only thing? I want a new one anyone know where I can get one?
