My 88' Vert

Hey all,

I figured it's about time I posted some pics of my Vert. This car is my baby...I bought her last summer in horrible shape. The car had no engine, drivetrain, exhaust and the body had some imperfections ( for one, the rear spoiler was held on by bondo). Needless to say, it has come a long way. It was a good father/son project, giving us some good bonding time.

Any how, as far as the mods go, the car has Tokiko adjustable shocks and Intraxx lowering springs, RB headers and a straight exahaust back to a SuperTrapp muffler (I know it is kinda nasty, I need to change it...I just wanted to get the car on the road!). Anyone have an aftermarket catback for sale? The car is loud to say the least. The engine has all the emissions control items removed, wired open ports, TB mod, AGR block-off , etc. And who could forget the K&N cone filter? I also removed the power steering and the A/C and put on an RB main pulley. The speedo didn't work, so I used three different ones to make one that worked (with white-faced gauges). The interior was pretty beat up when I got it, I think the previous owner left in outside with the top down as there was crap all over the place. It cleaned up really well...I had to replace some of the interior plastic as all 2nd Gen. owners are aware.
As far as the exterior, my brother did the bodywork, painting and refabricated the bondo-fastened spoiler, which turned out really well. We also put on a new front fascia before the paintjob. The car also came with an aluminum hood, a small bonus.

Minus the labor, the front fascia, paint/body supplies, and the intake, I paid $2800 for the car (with all the items described above plus a new set of 17" wheels and tires that are currently on the car...I'll have to take some photos). After Everything was said and done, it was up around $4500 (including ~$1000 for a new mp3player, speakers, amp, and sub). Pretty good deal, eh?

As far as driving this baby, I love it. I have a 94' Single Turbo (385RWHP), which is FOR SALE (check the for sale section) and this car comes close in terms of "blast to drive". Of course the horsepower isn't there, but I have a T2 engine and tranny I hope to swap into it next summer.

And last, but not least, who could forget the Transformers sticker and Efini insignia!

Tell me what you guys think!

Here is another of the rear. Sorry for the strange looking photos, I had to cut pieces out so they would upload.

I noticed that you have super trapps installed? Did you install them to quiet the exhaust?

I installed a large single converter in place of the two pre-cat and main cat. The car is much louder - it booms. I would like to get it quiet again.

Man you did a superb job of fixing that car up i got to hand it to you . You did a great job of showing how a convertible rx7 should look instead of that flaming who made 8 or so threads about his red riced out convertible what a shame that was. Once again man sweet *** job.

Thanks for the comments guys!

BLKTOPTRVL: In terms of the exhaust, I have a SuperTrapp on the car because I bought it from the same guy that I bought my headers from...he had bought the two for his car, but it got stolen. I didn't put in on to quiet the car down, but rather to get in on the road. As I said, it is very loud, but I don't have a reference to compare the SuperTrapp to (such as another catback), so I don't know if it does anything in terms of noise suppression. Sorry I couldn't offer you more information.

I'm very proud to see another reconditioned RX on the road...
You both did an excellent job...
I have been working on my '89 vert... I bought mine off of e-bay for 500 dollars, as you can imagine the car is in major need of TLC...
It's all good though, when it is finished I will be just as proud as you are....
