Unhappy My 88' convertible has a wierd starting issue

This has happened to me twice. I will park my car and return 10 minutes later and when I turn the key I get nothing. Faintly hear what sounds like the fuel pickup behind me, but no clicks or anything else. Battery is fine, clutch is fully depressed, anything that would rob juice is off. But, If I let the car cool for a couple of hours, it starts up first try. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

your starter overheated, it may be going bad, check there first and then check connections, grounds, battery, starter, etc.
