are my 6port actuators busted?

I've spent a long time searching this and I feel like the problem with my auxilary ports has to be related to the actuators themselves.

I have an s4 N/A and the auxilary ports have never worked right since I bought the car. Previous owner wired them open, so right now I'm trying to do the electronic solution. I got all that stuff hooked up fine, but when I put the actuators on and try to test them by blowing into the tube nothing happens. It's like when you have trouble blowing up a balloon--the air isn't going anywhere. The sleeves themselves rotate open easily, so I don't need to clean them. When I run the air pump with the actuators off I can feel the air coming out of the manifold. I've replaced the gaskets with new ones from Mazdatrix.

Now, I got these actuators off a friend's parts car. The rod that depresses into the actuator seems VERY stiff. With the actuator off I can barely push the rod down with my hand. It sure as hell seems like that 2psi won't do ****. This rod should push down easily right? It seems like there is WAY too much tension inside the actuator.

Should I just replace them? I mean **** I could get another set off a parts car or off the classifieds. How do I know if the actuator is in spec?

When my actuators are off, they depress very easily. Sounds like they have gotten dirty inside.

I wouldn't call it "easy" to push them down (it's not something a 3yo could do). "Very stiff" isn't a good sign, though.

Each actuator has two openings on the back. If you block one off with your finger, and blow into the other one, lung pressure should be able to push the rod down. If this doesn't happen, then the actuator is probably bad.

Once it's on the car, the gasket seal is critical. Clean off both sides VERY well, and use the gasket, or get creative with RTV. If you use RTV, don't clamp it too tight, or you'll squeeze the RTV out and it won't seal.

If your actuators are bad, I have a few sets laying around I'd love to sell - PM me and I can get something shipped out as soon as Tuesday.

Couldn't move the rod down by blowing through one hole and blocking the other off, on either actuator. PM sent.

What do you need a picture of? This is a S4 actuator.

there is a whole tube inside with a slit so that when they are rotated, the slit ligns up with another intake port, meaning more air can get into the chamber. There is one on the front and back rotars. You dont want them open all the time because the port timing is altered and you end up loosing tourque.... basicly its better to have them functioning than not - in my opinion
