my 1st 7 experience.

hey everyone. good to finally be on this board, havent posted yet, just been reading it for about 2 months. just thought id share the good news that today i drove my first rx7, 1990 gxl. it was a thing of beauty. if i can get a loan out for it i will have it in my driveway next week. just wanted to ask if u all thought this was a good deal. the car has 120k miles, beautiful condition, near zero rust. gonna buy it for 3k. motor ran great, shifts beautiful. only prob i noticed was the 3800rpm hesitation. i have to say it is prolly one of the best cars ive ever drove(not that my list of cars is long). i know this thread is kinda pointless but i just wanted to say hello, and i hope to talk more on this forum. ive already got a ton of info just from reading everything.

im almost in the same situation as you. but um, isnt the 3800 hesitation a costly fix? oh well i dont know.

anyways i had my first 7 experience this week, only i didnt drive, only sat in a gtu-s and some others. if everything goes right ill have a great condition (dont know about engine but can get it rebuilt) gsl-se or a gtu-s in a week or two.

3800 rpm hesitation is due to cold solder joints i believe? not too sure... dont think it should be that much.

ya ive already read that site 20 times. has really good info. he used whatever oil the car is supposed to take. good old fossil fuel and not synthetic. he has most of the maintenance receipts too. i only noticed one other prob, that may be my fault. when i started the car, it went thru warmup, ran for about 3 minutes, then died. i think it couldve been my fault though because i forgot to put it in neutral when i first started it and it died before warmup got done when i let out the clutch.

just one other quick question. what rpms should the rx7 run at. i know most cars shift at 35k and run at about 2k unless ur doing some spirited driving, but i know rx7s rpms get real high. just wondering cuz i didnt want to put it in like 5th gear, doing 55-60 when my rpms were only 4k or so since it would drop it below 3500.

3800 rpm hesitation is to bad ground its not a costly fix just got to home depot get some wire and ground the ECU and Motor and Last alternator i tihnk 3k is a little pricy for a 120k mile GXL you can get a decent TII for that price if you just wait and look around more and instead of a GXL go for a GTU

it's funny, I have almost no hesetation whatsoever... is that a really common thing? I only ask because I am buying a 91 GXL just for engine and parts

the 3,800 rpm hesitation has no single diagnosis. It can be many many things. sometimes it is not simply a bad ground wire. Often times it is though...
