Wow, thats very impressive. Its not too often that you find posts that someone has put ALOT of time effort and logic. not to say that no posts have these elements. its just that sniper's was a well constructed and well thought out post. WTG man.

Why did i buy my rotary?

Well, it has something to do with all of the AutoX trophies my dad has on his desk. You see, when i was young (im only 17) my dad raced AutoX in his beast of a TII. I idolized both the car and driver. At times when we would drive at night, he would roll down both windows and open the sunroof letting the wind in. Then, with a grin on his face, he would downshift and punch it. The unique rotary "wail" and the sound of the turbo hissing away was intoxicating. When it came time to buy a car i was faced with either getting the TII or an old 73 Vette that i had found. After comparing the two, the Rex was the winner. (Insurance was like $600/mo for the vette, insurance<--- ) And looking back now. i dont think i would have liked the loose suspension and constant rumble. I love my Rex

Congrats again and Cheers
Troy

Awesome thread! I've only had my 7 for about a month and a half, but I am definately in love with the thing (besides it's faults). The journey to Rex ownership was long and frustrating, but ultimately gratifying. I was in love with these things when I was a kid but as I got older that love seemed to kinda fade away. I had a whole slew of cars by the time I was 24: '65/'67/'63 VW bugs, 1990 Ford Ranger, 1993 Honda Civic EX, '95 GSX-R 750, '97 Chevy S-10, 2000 VW Golf, and a 98 Prelude. As I started learning more about cars and more about what I wanted out of a car my desires changed. My roomate had a 85 Hachi and later an 88 Turbo Supra and we used to sit around and watch Initial D videos. He taught me all about drifting and I just loved driving his Hachi. So I decided I wanted a late 80's RWD Import. Almost immediately the 7 popped back into my head. I ate, slept, breathed... and lived the 7 (even though I didn't own one). I'm the kinda guy who likes things against the grain... things that are different. The 7 was that for me. It was THE car I wanted to own.

It took 2 years to find my 7. TWO long years of waiting and dreaming. I had to have a T2. I finally found it right after I got back from a LONG deployment to the middle east. 88 T2, black/grey, clean interior, awesome body with no paint fade. Owner thought the engine was blown. $2000. Spark plugs, the ATF treatment and a tune up later it purrs like a kitten. I've wrenched on it myself and learned alot about the car and about me. These things ROCK. Sorry about the length, but this post just really had me thinking about my RX-7 journey and I really wanted to share it. I think there's alot of people who know how I feel! Thanks for listenin'... peace, love and RX-7's!

Beautifully said. As a newbie I still know a bit about the history of the wankel. Oh and I don't own an rx-7, my dad does. But I drive it all the time. And the reason he got it is because it is a good bang for the buck. His g/f used to have a 1st gen and I rode in that with him all the time. Then he decided that he needed an rx-7 after she sold it. Then came old red. 86' N/A. The only thing that has power anything is the antenna. I didn't really know anything about rotary engines until I really got into cars when I was 16. Then I loved my dad's rx-7 more and more. Especially when I took friends for rides in it and showed them how nicely the car cornered and handled. Needless to say I have impressed many with one of the slower rx-7's. I talked to my dad about making it faster, but all he would say isn't it fast enough? And I would have to say, yea...I guess. My time for the 1/4 mile was 16.3 and I only got one run. And it was my first time driving at the strip. I think that's pretty good for an 86' that has a rebuilt engine with 32,000 miles on it. That's my rx-7 story.

Damn, good post. It took me a while to read through but I think I do not fully understand yet. I read 3 paragraphs, I forget the 3 that I have read. Hehe, just joking. But really, good post. And there are so many that I agree with you, especially the rice definitions. To me, being Japanese, some of you put the chinese characters saying the brand of your car but it just looks so weird to me. Plus all the characters were incorrectly put! What is UP WITH THAT?????? If someone has the stickers on, please take it off. It would be like saying just because I can not read/understand means it is cool. No offense though.

I do not know if it is the 8th or 9th posts but probably it still is in single digit level. If I could post the 100th, I hope I could have the post even 1/100 of the contents of yours.

Happy RX-ing everyone!

Great. Thanks for YOUR help on the Forum.
The barn were we built our Rods (mine 48 Olds fastback with 54 Rocket 88 4 barrel, header-only one side, moon caps-only one side) was next to an engineer at Curtis Wright. We heard this buzzing noise and here he was working on a rotary engine in his back yard.
25 years later....a friend of my wife's drove in in a white/blue RX7 convertable. WOW. ...(the car dear).
I drove a 1st gen and almost bought it (should have).
Looked in paper...white convertible...bought it...5 years later...white convertible parked at neighbors house...left card...now two white convertibles. The 89 150,000 never missed a beat, oil, filters, plugs, fluids. No so the 91!
Both about to run due to Forum, thanks everyone!

Hehe.. my car is COMPLETELY stock in the looks department except 3 things

1) One FTP lens fell out, so i took the other out so it matches up

2) Had to install an autometer temp guage since the S5 temp guages suck ***. It's mounted below the stereo and looks very professional.

3) The 1990 Mazda tape deck just didn't cut it. So I installed a Pioneer CD deck.

Am I rice?

Hell no

Anything doe with taste is not rice.

and the FTP lens thing?

thats hilarious and so TRUE.

I replaced my lenses (yes expensive) but that along with new window trim on the doors really cleaned up the car without fixing the paint.

I have seen a temp gauge mod that makes it more linear and more accurate.

I hope to either completely replace my cluster with a modern display or use stock gauges with digital numerics for each value inset into each stock gauge.

Itll be hard, but worth it if i can find miniature digital indicators.

Ill make new stock looking gauge faces and have the digitals inset like the odometer on a 3rd gen.

One for each gauge.
