My *New* 88 Rx7 Vert whatcha think? good deal?

Hi People I am just wandering what you guys think about the 88 Vert I've just purchased. I am also just wandering a few questions that are probably in line just for the rx7 vertible. first off, a little about the car. It's a 1988 rx7 S4 convertible. I found this baby hiding in Zenia, Ohio. It has 131,000 original miles, and it wasn't smoking at all It looked very well taken care of. I'm pretty sure this car has been left completely stock. Anyway. I modified my 6PI to work off the airpump since the exhaust was leaking (credit to coldfire!!). thats probably the only mod done to this car. Other than that. completely bone stock and unmolested.

I was just wandering a few answers from the rx7 vert owners out there. I have noticed that the seats in this car don't have speakers on them (once upon a time 1999 I test drove a 91 rx7 vert w/automatic trans, had speakers on the seat headrests. almost wish I would've got that one, but the dealer wanted $11,000) and was wondering if the rx7 verts had different kinds of seats? I have a picture of them I'll post. Also, Is it common for the verts to leak? When it rains, it will leak right where the windshield and the targa connect, right near the corners where the little "buckets" are that drain water, directly over the window switches. Is this a common? Whats a way to fix it? Also, my car is getting REALLY bad gas mileage (10-15 miles/gallon) any ideas on how to help? or is it normal for the verts? Also, Tell me if you like the car! I purchased it for $3000, and so far I think it was WELL worth it!..

also on a sadder note, I pray for the people of N. Orleans and all the *snif* *snif* Rx7's under the flood... may the rx7s run to rotary heaven peacefully...

It looks to be in good condition, but some people will say you overpaid a bit

Cool seats but they don't look stock, that's for sure. My '88 has the speakers in the headrest, it was an option I beleive. Yep, mine drips in sometimes on the drivers side at the front.... dunno what to do except replace parts. Last tank for very spirited city/highway driving I got 20mpg. Now for the fun part... I traded an old '74 Marshall Combo for it. I had $200 in the amp. Of course I could have sold the amp for about a grand but my T2 needed a little brother to play with. I don't think $3k is bad for a car in that condition. I love the hell out of mine, it's my DD. BTW, what freaking color is that? It looks kinda green on my screen. Is it blue with just the sun hitting it wierd? I's say ya done good man.

Its looks a couple of shades up from leaf green.. I think Teal Green would be close. .. another question.. could I just wire a pair of truck speakers from the wiring from the headrest speaker wires? if so, where are the wires most likely located in the car. havn't found them yet, could use the help..

I'd start tracing them from the headrest speaker controls in the center console. If nothing else go to either http://squeakyweasel.net/rx7/manuals/ or http://www.iluvmyrx7.com/ .
Both of these places have the factory service manuals on them and worse case you can find out where all the wires were/are along with the power amps and speakers.

Those are Chrysler Conquest seats. My starion had the more smooth perforated leather. The conquest's had the plush thicker leather. Looks good though. Who cares if someone says you paid too much. As long as it makes you happy then thats all that matters.

Edit: if you fish around under the seat there "should" be a wire with a plug on it somewhere. That is the line for your headrest speakers. There would be one under each seat unless someone has done away with them. Im having a hard time remembering now but when i did mine i bypassed both amps and the only one i can remember right now was behind the drivers side speaker thats under the dash. This amp may be for the door speakers, i cant remember for sure. Im thinking that is it though. If someone knows im wrong and im losing my mind then please correct me

Here's me in mine at Deal's Gap 2005.

and another shot from there....

If you end up having half the fun I've had with mine you're gonna be a happy boy. On a side note if you haven't done it yet I would do all the 60k tuneup stuff to it.

Wait! I figured it out! My conquest was an 89, my starion was an 87. Those seats you have are the non recaro seats from the 87 model. The 88-89 had the recaro seats........ aha! I dont feel quite as dumb now. Wheres my award
