motor swap

OK I had an 88 with good motor bad ecu, 87 with bad motor good ecu. Anyways the 87 looked better than the 88 so decided to put good motor with harness in the 87. So i got a problem now. Car starts up to 3000 rpms then quickly dies. I can keep it running if i hold the pedal steady at 2000 rpms. Someone told it was two completly different harnesses which means two different ecu's. He told me that the 87 had a solenoid resistor under the intake box and the 88 harness does not have a hookup for it. Could that be the problem that the 87 ecu doesnt see that solenoid resistor. What does the solenoid resistor do anyways. Thanks sorry if it sounds confusing could not think of a better way to explain it. Bottom line is a 88 ecu different from a 87

i put an 88 n/a in my 87 n/a. has 87 wiring harness. the only things i found to be different were the two connectors on the oil pan. I could be wrong, but i think you should be fine with your engine and ecu

well the car starts up to 3000 rpms then shuts back off. Unless i hold the throttle steady at 2000 it will keep running once i let off the throttle it shuts back off. I have an egr block off and air control valve block off could that be whats causing this problem. Thanks
