Motor Swap
I just went out and bought a motor today and I was wondering. Of course this does not help now that I have the motor. The motor was with an automatic tranny and I have a manual. I am sure but I just want some support. Once I remove the auto flywheel and balance I should be able to then attach a manual setup.
Never done it myself. I understand, like you, that the counterweights have to be changed from automatic to manual. Maybe this Mazdatrix data will help until someone comes along who's done it...http://www.mazdatrix.com/b5.htm
Swap
Thanks for the info. I think it will be okay. I am ordering a light steel flywheel. I already have a bonez race clutch that was just put on from my blown motor to complete it all.

yeah ive done it...
it all bolts on sweet and easy (except for that F@#ing big nut). Oh and theres a small bushing inside the main shaft.. stick your finger in there and you should be able to move it around.. I cant remember why.. but i had to remove it. cost like $5 to replace
Also, the auto box had a vacuum line running to it, just check for that and remember to block it off.
I have heard that the counter-weight from the auto can be used on aftermarket flywheels.
