true......but a PITA... I have big hands. If it is the first time with the car, there is no better way to learn then to tear it apart.

ok guys... Ratsnest?.... explain. Im not one for removing misc. parts for no reason, but my egr stuff was removed on my mr2s b/c its useless.

With this being and 86 I dont think they check emissions anymore in the county I just moved to but they def dont where the car is registered in.

and I am 6'5 with big hands.. so reaching things in this area just isnt happening. So ill be removing what was listed until I can reach this area. Hopefully it is this hose and nothing else and that will solve this issue. Damn I sure hope so... All that smoke had me so scared. if this is fixed tonight then I will buy you all an internet beer or something lol

And this hose, is it something generic that I could pick up a certain length of or make something fit at advance auto *luckily where the hose busted at*
ZERO special tools. Might need a gasket. The water line is a common size. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE OIL INJECTOR LINES. They break very easy. There also is a main ecu ground under there you might want to upgrade/check. It is under one of the pedestals by the oil filter

DONT **** WITH THE VAC LINES. As everyone else has stated. the rats nest you will see when the uim is off.RATS NEST, It is metal vacuum lines that go into a bunch of solenoids by the driver side of the motor. It sits on top of the motor under the manifold. get vac line too you might as well replace any shadey ones.

BTW I prefer internet hookers

not certain exactly what it is still but Ill just check all hoses and lines and repace as see fit... hopefully I can get this done in the advance auto parking lot on and run in and get what I need as I go.. (i guess i got lucky where I ended up)

What would this gasket be called and whats it between uim and lim ??? will a gasket sealer work if need be (figuring most places dont carry alot of rx7 parts in stock)

Thanks alot again...
Im asking all this cuz once i head out im on my own

sealant would work if the gasket breaks but try to avoid that. if you do need to use sealer use it very very sparingly. you don't need a ton or it will just wind up in the motor where you really don't want it.

MOST of the time, the gasket remains on the LIM. I have done a bunch and only had to use a gasket once.

takes me about 1 hour to completely pull apart the top end, double that and you should be in the neighborhood depending on how slow and carefully you go about it maybe longer.

Blastdirt...Sometimes your injectors can be leaky...Then it spews fuel into your motor, and it gets flooded. The smoke is probably because all that fuel is caustic and actually eats dirty excess oil buildup that's been collecting on the inside of engine for years. This comes of in the motor you're trying to start and when it finally does start, its literally burns all that crap up. That'd be my guess anyway. Mine would smoke like crazy when I put ATF in it. I covered my whole block in a fog of Rx7 excrement.

That is some info that would be helpful TO YOU.... maybe start a new thread for best results... Not that big of a deal, but I Really need to keep this on point...

OK, after working for hours, Ive done practically NOTHING. Intake is off. elbow is off. Took off the bolt that restricts the throttle cable from spinning all the way back. took off a few little hoses, etc... But still barely no room to get down into the area. Even if I clear alot off, how far is that hose underneath the uim.. Do i have to remove all of the intake mani (part stamped fuel injected 13 b or whatever..) ??????

Following the above pics... I stopped after the intake elbow...

Im def having a hard time removing all of the throttle cables around the back of the upper manifold.....

Um, I've had five of these cars. I've never tore off the UIM to get to a radiator hose. Unless I missed something about your particular situation, the only hose you should have been looking at is the one that leads to the cold start assist. That's *on top* of UIM not below it.

Number one hose that has failed on the five FC's i've owned is the heater core hose. However, now that I think about it, there's another hose. A big one at the bottem of your radiator that goes into your water pump.

It is a hose that is very close to your exhaust manifold and would spray it, under the right conditions.

But once I read you we're tearing off the UIM, I was kinda like... yeah.

EDIT

Okay, I see that you located the leak....Guess your hands were to big to get to it with out removing the UIM...

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Good luck

read the first part... I found a puddle leak right beind the intake mani in the middle of the car, midway down. The hose which runs along top of the intake man (i think to the cold start) and round to the drivers side of the intake mani was taken off but i see no leaks from there. I cant get down where I need to replace....

I think im heading in the right direction... ill never know whats up until i assemble everything and try to start it and see... im stressed.

Thanks man...

OK, story starts when the hose busted pulling into advance auto at 7:30 Pm on friday....
I explain symptoms and you all help point out the single coolant hose. 8:30 problem is identified (hopefully) and then a plan of attack is made. Not ever taking apart a rotory before I was in DEEP. well I wrenched from 8-12 last night, then woke up and from 8-6 today I worked and cussed until I removed the intake, elbow, throttle body and Intake manifold... I was hoping all this was not to find out the hose wasnt it but I saw an obvious slice in the hose. Problem: after searching for an hour no place had the hose *go figure* so I found the proper size hose and a few 90degree bends made for heater hose. Rigged that and finally reinstalled everything in just enough time to miss the whole car meet that I planned... go figure.

Thanks for all the help guys, Yeah, it took HOURS and HOURS but its done... However, im thinking I should go order the proper prebent hose from mazda and replace what I made even though I feel its flowing good and real tight....

Thanks, NAPA had the bends... but the hose makes 3 almost 90 degree bends in its travel and I didnt want to just try to use one long piece because it would crimp up when bent, thus blocking its flow... at least partially.
