Motor Mounts
Ok I was looking through a search I made for engine mounts. I was trying to find what to look for when looking for bad mounts. The reason that I am asking this is because my car vibrates and I want to find the source of it. I am thinking the engine mounts are the culprits since they are 16 years old. I know that my rear diff. mount is broken aswell but the vibration occurs at idle. I would also like to know how and what to look for on the transmission mount to see if it is bad. All the threads I have read so far just say "check the mounts" but they don't really go into detail into what would indicate a bad mount. Thanks for the help.

ok motor mount/tranny mount ect will have a peice of rubber stuck betwene two peices of metal. if the rubber has broken free of the metal, time for a new mount, or if the metal is cracked anywhere. Iv nenver seen a broken motor mount on an RX7 but this is what usally happens. so pretty much check to see if the rubber is broken. Bad things can happen when you break the rubber

I've pulled three engines, and two mounts broke, but both cars were involved in accidents. The rubber just came off of the metal part of the mount. As long as the rubber is attached, and not cracked, it should be fine.
If you have access to a lift, just attach it and start lifting the engine. Don't lift high at all, just look to see if the mount separates. Be careful not to put any serious pressure on it though, you don't want to break the other mount.
