yes, put most of it together while it is out. I saw pics that somebody posted and they basically put the short block in and bolted it to the tranny and then started putting crap on. I had all the goodies on except the A/C and Powersteering becuase I didn't break those lines loose from the car.

I had to take my drivers side motor mount back off to get the motor to drop in.......which was a mistake cause the passenger side has a slot (rather than a hole) for the mount to go into. I guess you put the driver side mount in first and then the passenger side.

Oh and another thing. I had my motor on a chain and had it tilted forward. another mistake. It should be tilted back toward the tranny. Makes sense now but before hand I didn't think of it.

id atleast, and i mean atleast put the lower intake manifold, exhuast manifold on it. from there you can bolt everything to the short block. Once you've taken your motor out 7 or 8 times in a year you learn where EVERYTHING goes.

I prob can put the motor in, in about 2 hours and hook up everything.

i put the whole engine plus tranny on . have it tilted back,,, take out the radiator(not necessary but helps alot ) and have the whole engine put together , execept dont seal the uim to the lim ,, put the gaskest on, but dont rtv it or adheve it yet .,, and use the mounting point on the uim.. drop the engine in .. take the uim off . and hook up what you can.. test the fuel system to make sure there is no leaks. then procceed to put on the uim with sealer. hook up the rest . and fire her up

Do you have the tranny out with it? Its much easier to align the tranny outside of the car. When I did my engine, I made the mistake of putting only the short block in and then trying to bolt everything up afterwards. It seems now that it would have been much easier to assemble the longblock outside the car as well. That said, it took me about an hour to put the short block and tranny in.
