Just have a machine shop make it. Or, if you know a good welder, have him modify your stock backplate. ALl it is, is a tube connected to a hole in the backplate, the hole gets cut right behind the flapper. Then the area between the turbine housing and backplate, where the exhaust gases exit the turbine wheel gets a piece of pipe pressed into place so that the WG passage is sealed off, and must flow out the dump tube. You just cut out a hole in the back plate. You can either drill and tap 2 holes and use a flange of some sort and weld off of that, or weld a pipe right to the plate itself.

neat! less exhaust turbulance.

It'd be **** loud even off boost and still have turbulance unless you block off the wastegate part and the exhaust turbine part.
Not hard to do if you have access to a mill and a welder.

I custom made a divided downpipe. I got a machine shop to make the back plate from a template, and extended part of the main pipe through the plate to divide the turbine and wastegate flows.

If you want to open-vent the wastegate pipe instead of merging it like I did you have to ensure there in an airtight seperation between the turbine and wastegate, or you'll esentially have a constant exhaust leak and resulting crappy sound.

I said less turbulance, not 'no turbulance'.
That'd be the best thing, would be to just eliminate the integral wastegate all together and use a custom manifold with an external wastegate. for the $ though its a neat solution. I doubt the gains would really be all that worth while tho.

A wastegate dump pipe is for noise, not performance. It's like an open-vented BOV for the other end of the engine. My divided downpipe was done purely to increase wastegate flow and hence reduce boost creep.

Yes, but that is also alot more work than just having a wastegate dump The picture in his 1st post is of my old dump pipe. The way it was constructed is it had cylindrical sleeve that slid into the exhaust turbine section, which sperated the exhaust gases from the wastegate flow. I actually sold that to a forum member, and am in the process of making another. Im not sure how yours is seperated NZ, but I like the idea more of making a divider plate that sits in the turbo itself:

then just having to drill a hole in the backplate to attach a pipe. Personally, I think the noise is negligable, since it olny occurs at full boost when the wastegate is open, which most times can easily be avoided in daily driving situations.

It's not that much really. All you're doing is cutting a hole in the side of the exhaust pipe and then cutting and shaping a bend to match the two holes. It's definitely worth it for those of us who prefer a slightly less obnoxious exhaust note.

Mine's done a bit like yours was, but I didn't extend the whole pipe through to meet the turbine, just a section of it to form a dividing wall. That big plate looks nice, but requires precision engineering that I didn't have time for when mine was done. Maybe next time.
