More starting problems, ugh.

First off, I had a problem starting my car the other day. Turned out my fuel cut wire was disconnected and the engine was not getting any fuel. https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/had-engine-cleaned-car-wont-start-445902/

Now today, my car is just stalling mid-drive. I can be going 50 km/h, and it will just lose power and die, like it is out of gas. However, I just put 45litres in last night, and my fuel gauge is reading over a half tank.

It also likes to do this when stopped at a really long red light or something (or in the McDonald's drive through).

It has happened four times today, never happened before.

If I wait about 7 minutes, cut the fuel, then pull the Number 1 30A (right most) fuse, I think it is the one labelled "Engine Comp"??? Anyway, then get back in my car, try to start it. I then replace the fuse, jump back in the car, turn the fuel on and start it up. It will usually start up.

Sometimes it will only run for a few seconds (like 30-45) then I will redo the above process and it will run for a decent amount of time.

It seems like it is flooding pretty badly. Possible that my fuel cut controller is not working at all, and allowing fuel to run constantly? Or is there something else at issue here?

Weird! Any chance it could be electrical..maybe alternator? I had a first gen
that did exactly that once, just sputtered and died during a 40MPH drive. Turned
out the battery was not secured, slid over and shorted the positive terminal to
the hood somewhere.

I'll get my alternator checked out on Monday. My battery is very secure, and I am still getting full power to everything. Ie: stereo, lighting, window, sunroof, etc. So I'm not totally convinced it is an alternator issue, although that was one of my first inclinations.

I am willing to bet that my Fuel Cut wire was disconnected again, this time while it was allowing fuel to go through, and it is just flooding like crazy. Maybe I should have the FCC reinstalled and mounted somewhere different to avoid this.

That sounds more like it could be a faulty electrical connection. Over the years, my 87 TII has pulled this stunt three times. Once it was a large wire in the area of the engine fuse box (complete power failure). Next time, it was due to the connector being slightly loose at the MAF (caused symptoms similar to yours). Most recently, it was the connector at the resistor for the fuel injectors (caused symptoms similar to yours). When they get a little loose, these connectors start to make intermittent contact, causing problems.

If you know where all your major fuel-related connections are, try wiggling them with the car running, to see if you can cause the stall to occur. Or, next time it quits, try wiggling the wires and connectors before re-starting.

Also, you can check your grounds, and the connector for the leading coil.

I'm confused about the fuel cut wire you're referring to. Sounds like you have a fuel cut switch for your fuel pump, which needs to be on for the car to run. The fuel CUT feature is a computer generated signal to the injectors, so I don't think you'll be finding a wire for that.

^ I didn't totally ignore your thoughts on the flooding issue in my previous post. It just seems to me that if the car were to stall due to flooding, it would have poor performance and lots of black smoke just before stalling. I'm guessing that it's just a coincidence that the car re-starts when you pull the fuse.

Have you checked the wiring to the fuel cut off? I had the exact issue (wonderful experience in peak hour traffic). The crimps to my fuel cut toggle switch had melted and the wire was floating around.
