More room in the 'vert rear . . .

I have a 90 convertable. I plan to somehow aquire the S4 aluminum spare (Save some weight, anyone neerby selling one?) and stick that in the stock coupe location (trunk), then pull all the stuff that surrounded it inside the car, such as the wind deflector and all that plastic. I plan to cut the 'vert mounting points for the spare. I will remove the trunk plastic and metal that seperates the trunk from the interior.

Next I will biuld a cover for that area alowing it to sit much lower. I'm wondering if the storage bins that came stock on some coups would fit in there? I have an S4 SE parts car that I'll be scavanging for coupe parts that might be able to be cut to fit.

I plan to document my doing this with pictures and a writeup if there is intrest
Now, the main reason for this post:

Has anyone done this, or something like this before? If so, pictures? Writeups?

And does anyone who is proficiant with the convertable forsee a problem in my doing this? Such as, when the top is down, does it require those little bump stops to stop from making some horrable noise or warping?

I'll wait for some feedback before planning this out farther.

- Just don't remove the metal bracing that's at the very back of the vert top. That acts as a strut tower bracing & is one of the reasons the convertible feels much more planted & stiff than the coupes.

- Not sure if the trunk wall can be removed, but it may also act as bracing/stiffening for your car body.

- The wind deflector is functional, so mabey you can integrate it somehow & just remove spare tire cover.

- Other than this, just don't place stuff higher than where the spare tire cover used to be.

Vaughn's right. Never cut metal from a convertible's body. And I promise you you'll miss the wind deflector. At any decent speed the cabin turns into a wind tunnel without it.

I was thinking of installing a wood panal that would allow me to keep the wind deflector, I know I like it. I was just saying to remove it to give an idea of what I was doing.

The metal that I plan on cutting is not the frame bracing stuff, its just the deviding wall stuff. I'll take pictures and circle it later.
