Question More questions about an 87 rx

i wrote this last night before my other help thread,,,,,,,,,im not off to to great of a start with this puppy.

Ok,,,just bought an 87 rx7 2+2 (non turbo, 5spd),I love this car,,,,kind of reminds me of my old corvette (the ways its made), ,,,,,its in pretty good shape for a 650 dollar, 93,000 mile car. It runs great, trans is good, all options work and interior has no rips,,,,bodys ok i guess,,,,BUT,,,(why does there always have to be a ..BUT) BUT there are two ,,,no wait,,,,three problems

first..there is a rubber mount on the drivers side of the hogshead that seems to sturdy the diff from moving(rear diff),,,it was a one piece mount that is now two,,,,and when on the gas and brake it flops up and down with a horrible thud on the floorboard,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,can't find a mount anywhere (except maybe at the dealer----but mucho $$$$$$$$$$$),,,,my question is. I can fabricate a steel mount/bracket the same as the rubber. If i do that could it hurt anything,,,,,rubber will flex, steel wont.

2nd problem
AC works good,(after i recharged it tonight),,,,,and again BUT,,,,the compressor will not kick on like it is supposed to. I had to unplug the single black wire coming out of the top and run it strait to the battery as a temporary fix,,,,,,(just long enought to check pressure in system and do the recharge)
-------------
the dash switch, and everything else seems to be ok but,,,,,i just cant get poer to that damn single little wire. Traced it to a relay (which i disected then put back together) its ok,,,,,,,,,anyone have/had a similar problem that might have a hint,,,,or a sure guess. I hate tracing wiring,,,,,,,blah!!!!!!

ok last but sure not the least,,,,,,,,,,,,,
the motorpurrs like a kitten,,,,EXCEPT (that one is just as bad as the BUT)

except when the rpms drop below 800,,,,she wants to stall,,,,,,,,if i adjust the idle up to 1200 she wont stall,,,,but she will surge real bad after warming up,,,,,,,,,,,,now to stop the surging i can put my finger on that little plastic electronic ram the is under the throttle rod (its got 3 or 4 wires going to it and seems to idle the car up)

WHAT IS IT CALLED??????

anyway,,,while holding that little pusher thing in the idle will drop to 1000rpm and idle smoothly,,,,but that is too high,,,,,,,750 is a good idle,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yes i have tried the basic tune up things
new plugs
air filter
oil change
hight test gas with some octane booster and injector cleaner
fuel filter

other than idle she runs perfect

any suggestions

Thanks Brent

Hogshead? Ram thing? I'm getting a headache trying to figure this out.

A hogshead, IIRC, is a unit of volume measurement. From the rest of the paragraph I assume you're talking about the differential mount, which should cost about $15-20. It's basically a metal plate with rubber on it. It would probablcy cost more to fabricate a steel one.

As to the AC, it seems some people's time is worth more or less than others. I would buy a $5-10 relay LONG before I stripped one to clean and check it. Since you hotwired the compressor, how do you know the relay and switch are OK? There's a computer in the dash called a Logicon that controls the heater/AC and some other stuff... it's notorious for failing, Search for Logicon on the discussion boards here.

The electronic ram is called a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), and probably needs adjustment. Get yourself a manual and do the rest of the tuneup, including checking major emissions/throttle parts (BAC valve, ACV, Thermowax valve, TPS).

Best of luck,

About the a/c. Go to the drier located in front of the radiator. Pull the two wires off the pressure switch there. Idle the car and turn the ac ON. See if there is 12v on one of those wires. YES? Then jumper the wires together. Did the clutch engage???? It should have IF the relay is good. IF the clutch did engage......then the pressure switch at the drier is bad or the refigerant is low (not likely since you just charged it.).

If you adjust the TPS and it still wont Idol right start checking for vacume leaks Oh yea and dont just start messing around with the TPS!!! do it the right way with a multimeter!
