more issues with my car...
Well as some of you know I got a '90 GXL and have been trying to revive it. But now I think its just about done so as a last effort I am here to get your opinions...
I got the car knowing it was "blown" so I looked around a bit a started tinkering with it. When I went to crank it over small amounts of smoke came out the tail pipes and it sounded like it almost wanted to start.
Well I put some ATF fluid in the trailing holes and let it sit for a day. once I did this I could easly puch the car in 5th gear (something I could not do before) I came back out 1 day later and tried starting it again, still puffed smoke out the pipes and sounded like it wanted to start.
I pulled the plugs again yeterday and (BTW they were really fouled) noticed they were all wet from gas so I know its getting gas, and I know its getting spark (the smoke comming out the pipes) but it still will not start up.
I went to the store and got 4 new spark plugs and some starting fluid. got home changed out the plugs and sprayed in some starting fluif directly into the intake elbow. Tried to start her up and agaoin there was smoke out the pipes but this time it REALLY sounded like she wanted to start up. even had the engine speed up a little like it was just about to fire up.
after alot of trying and praying my starter does not kick out on me (thinkits about to) I pulled a trailing spark plug out of the rear rotor and held my thumb over the hole while I had a friend crank it over. I felt pulses of air comming out but if I put my thumb over the hole I could easily hold them in (is this normal?)
I gave up for yesturday and am hoping I can get some good suggestions from you guys. Anybody know what I could do to get her fired up?
thx guys

I don't want to be a jerk, but it sounds like the engine is toast. (it happened to me) After I had the engine rebuilt, the pulses of air that came out of the sparkplug holes were REALLY strong, I mean REALLY strong. The reason that you can push the car in 5th, is 'cause there's no compression.
Anyway, I do have one thing that you can try - check the engine ground. Use a set of jumper cables from the battery to the engine, and see if that helps. Otherwise, it's time to rebuild.
