Question More ACV vaccum hose questions

I have an '89 n/a. Shortly I plan to electronically activate the 5/6 ports, so I've just recently removed my ACV. I've read all related posts and still find confusion over what to do with the vaccum lines on an '89 N/A specifically. Here is how they run:

1. Metal hose cluster to ACV
2. Metal hose cluster to port 6
3. Metal hose cluster to port 5
4. Metal hose cluster to intake manifold
5. Pressure Sensor to exten Manifold

I want a clean setup (aka No Metal Hose Cluster). Removing the cluster leaves me with hard to reach hoses. Suggestions??? Also, where is everybody getting caps, plugs and etc from. I've been all over Home Depot!!!!!

Thanks!

Your 6PI system is already electronically activated. The ECU sends a signal to the solenoid valve, opening it and letting pressure from the air pump operate the actuators. The ACV has nothing to do with this. The three vac lines that were attached to the ACV can just be capped. The others (like the pressure sensr) need to stay. From what you've described, you have a perfectly working 6PI system. Why do you want to change anything?

But I thought the removal of the ACV rendered the secondary ports useless. The air pump directs pressure into the ACV which sends it to the exhaust, etc. The 5th/6th ports are connected to a metal hose cluster, but where does that cluster get it's pressure? I thought it was from the air pump? Please explain, because I am looking for an alternate means of providing the 5th and 6th port actuators with the required pressure needed to open the secondary ports, as my ACV is removed.

Thanks, Derek

Pressure from the air pump for the 6PI and VDI actuators is taken from the line before the ACV, not after it.

Leave the air pump in place and make sure the lines that run to the 6PI and VDI actuators are still intact. With the pipe that went to the ACV blocked off, everything should work normally.

The first thing you should do is go to www.fc3s.org and download the NA EFI chapter of the 89 Factory Service Manual from there for free (you'll need Acrobat Reader to view it). Study all of the vacuum diagrams and the sections on the 6PI and VDI systems. Then it will all make sense!
