What years did the moonoof come in 2nd gen? How rare are they?

 

None. the moon roof was a very rare dealership option. there are a few around but they can fetch $400+ easily.

That glass / plastic sunroof was never installed from the Mazda factory.

I know a guy who has an 88 T2 with a moonroof. Car is TOTALLY loaded though... has every single option including factory cd player and leather and is in awesome shape with like 105k miles on it. He bought it from the original owner.

 

I seen that thread in the For Sale section on that 10AE special moonroof, but I'm still not convinced.

You see...
The 10AE was a special model only for U.S. (North American?) consumption.
All FC's (hell, all RX-7's) were built in Hiroshima, Japan.
There is no such thing as a J-Spec 10AE.
Therefore, I think the 10AE "package" was done after the car hit North American shores...

That is correct. Simply a marketing ploy for MNA. Order a loaded model, slap some badges and a new steering wheel, and call it a limited anniversary edition

And if this thread is on the glass roofs, then glass roofs were all dealer installed or port installed. Not factory installed

Well actually it's my thread in the FS section... And let me say this...

I've seen roughly 10 FC's with the bronze tinted moonroofs and they were ALL 10AE's... The bronze tint even perfectly matches the factory bronze tint on the windows of the 10AE, so I'm convinced it was an option on them alone... All the others I've seen had protrusive bolts, and lacked the matching tint... Is it merely a coincidence that all the ones I've seen were on 10AE's? I think not...

 

I do agree though, that the 10AE was an American thing, but it's still a roof that was only available on those models...

 

wow, i must have got really lucky then. mine has cloth seats, manual windows and mirrors, tape deck, and its a se, so it has the 4 lug hubs. but i have a moonroof, and it actually works too

 

They pop up pretty regularly.
I just won on one myself for about $230.
I saw one go for an amazing $450 about a week ago!

My 87 TII had a sunroof.

 

Just to think, my stepmom backed over my moon roof because she wasn't paying attention...I was inside checking my email for a moment as I was working on the guides and I hear a loud BANG, I cringe and look out side...

She said I shouldnt have put it behind her car, I was like what if that was a kid...sorry kiddo, even though I just SMASHED your skull in you shouldnt have been behind me...

I could have sold that and bought new rims or something with that money lol
