Moonroof air deflectors?

I wish I was driving!
I think Kerry is talking about the little aftermarket visor over the front of the sunroof. It bolts on using two clips under the sunroof.
It prevents air from whipping down into the car while driving.
I recently gave a stock Mazda one away for the price of shipping.
They look ugly, and are less aerodynamic, but they do their job. They also have a tendency to scratch your paint since dust and dirt gets rammed under them.
Its up to you in the end.

Hey guys thanks for the reply.
Sorry I guess I wasn't that clear. I am talking about the aftermarket air deflector as Sean mentioned. I have noticed a few RX-7 on the forum have them.
I was just wondering what you all thought about the look and if there is a brand that looks the best.
I am still undecided
Thanks again, Kerry

They all pretty much look the same, IMO.
The Mazda brand defelctor that I had fit great, never rattled, and was easy to remove, but left scratches where removed and looked ugly as *** IMHO on my 88 NA.

The pop-up thingy that comes with the car is a piece of JUNK - all it does is create major wind roar and deflects nothing - take it out and chuck the thing - at highway speed I have almost no noise and not much air coming in with the roof open unless a side window is open as well.

To SURESHOT - that's a homebuild sunroof replacement - 1/4" dark bronze lexan mounted in place of the tin lid - works great!
Done Aug 2001 and has survived a Canadian winter with no problems - drive with the lid open even when snowing!
To MIKE-P-28 - don't really see what you are saying - I can cruise on the 401 at 120K with the roof open and the widows rolled up and have a normal conversation or listen to the stereo in comfort with no BOOM BOOM BOOM and no wind roar whatsoever - with the pop-up in place the wind roar was loud - if I roll down a window there is major increase in airflow through the roof due to suction effect, but not much noise increase. My homebuilt lexan roof insert actually has more wind noise when closed as I have not yet worked out a decent wind sealing system when the roof is closed.

I have had a Mazda deflector on my 7 (for about 6 months). I actually do like the look. One day I decided to wax my entire car, so I removed it. When I took it off, I noticed that it had completely ruined my paint job. Dirt, or rather small rocks get caught up under the rubber piece, and end up scratching and eating up your paint. It looks really bad. I tried over, and over to remove t he scratches, but they are still there... it's been about 1 1/2 years since... stil there...
So the wind deflector is just sitting in my closet... I guess I should just leave it one now since my paint is messed up already. As far a practicality, well, it DOES deflect the wind, but too much for my taste. I like having the wind come in my car. Even the stock wind deflector it too much. I live in L.A., and with the wind deflector, all I get is hot sun, and no wind from top.
But like Sean said, it's up to you. No wonder it is not that expensive from Mazda...

Thanks again to all who responded
I don't think I am willing to ruin my paint job.
I really appreciate the info.
Regards Kerry

Thanks,
It isn't leaking i'm just thinking about removing the stock pop-up deflector. Makes lots of noise when driving. Sometimes it bugs me so much that I just hold it down with my hand on the highway when someone is trying to talk. lol Feels to good outside to shut it.
