Exclamation Monster vibration and powerloss

Today I downshifted on the highway to pass a semi, shifted back into 5th once I had passed and experienced a huge powerloss and enormous vibration. I pulled over to see what was going on and my engine was shaking like it was going to bounce out of the hood. I would think motor mounts u joint or something but that wouldn't explain the huge powerloss at every rpm and gear. The shaking seems to get better at higher rpm but it is still shaking like mad and takes me a strip to get up to 55mph. Any ideas?

Sounds like a motor mount to me. Check those out. If theres a vibration chances are its that or a u-joint.

What would explain the loss of power in every gear at all rpms?

is there a loud knocking noise that increases pace with engine rpm?

feels like someone tied a brick to your flywheel? check your stationary gears and thrust bearings,,, before you pronounce it dead..

are you throwing any codes? your car might of gone into limp mode. I had the very same symtoms you had, I threw a code 29 and 27 which is the MOP, so i replaced it and reset the ecu and it went away

check your fuel injectors. You might have a primary stuck in the off position. Thats why it gets better at higher rpms because your secondaries are coming on. If it was a blown rotor it would get worse the faster you went.

Take one of the trailing spark plugs out, pull the egi fuse and turn the motor over.... listen for the pops.... should be three lound crips bursts... if you get one good one and two shitty ones.. ooops.... then put that spark plug back in and repeat for the other rotor....

10-1 the rear rotor took a ****

Yea, there's a good chance a rotor let go. Before you go screwing around with fuel injectors and lux-o-fields and other stuff, do the compression check. If get get "pop pop pop (repeat) on both rotors, then start messing with other stuff. It'll be really obvious if one rotor is no longer fully sealed.

Just remember... rebuilds are fun.

Let us know what you find out. Everyone's throwing stuff and knowledge from behind the parts counter.

I've almost pronounced mine dead several times. Only to find it still kicking. It's got 254K on original engine.

I'm not going to let this one go out on me... I haven't been able to check yet but I will get back with everybody. When this whole thing happened the exhaust note changed significantly. May be due to the rotor.
