mods and the wastegate

Hey if I porting the s4 wastegate as much as possible, what kind of mods could I do and still have control over the boost? Or not severe boost creep? By mods I mean full exhaust, intake, TID mod, etc.. Anyone have a setup they could share?

TIA

Porting the wastegate will give you *some* boost control, but not a lot. It's really hard to say how far you can go - it depends on too many factors.

If you're spending the money on all those mods, put some of the money towards an '89-91 turbo setup.

I've got a full 3" RB exhaust already.. which is why I want to port the wastegate. I was just curious if I'd be able to do any intake work afterwards..

now I'm wondering if there's gonna be an afterwards.. I'm about to give up on porting this damn thing.. I've taken everything off that I need to and I'm ready to unbolt the turbo from the manifold.. that's the problem. I can't get a socket on one of the four bolts because of a bent piece of metal around it.. I can't even see one of them and they are all rusted..

Does ANYONE have any tips on how to get this damn thing off?!?

hahah I know exactly what you mean. Try to go after it with a needlenose plier. Had the same problem when I put on my downpipe/midpipe - I ended up destroying the heat shield. you'll get it eventually it takes time. I'm about to swap to a s4 turbo that has the wg ported to the max the stock flap can go, so I'll keep everyone updated on my progress. I plan on going full exhuast and intake (3'' TID), but before I open it up anymore I am getting a SAFC to tune with, and maybe 720 secondaries. I guess it really makes sense just to grab a s5 turbo/mannifold when you get the chance.

wtf, does everyone get this problem? Part of my manifold gasket was bent so I couldn't get my socket over the nut. I bent it with pliars, but that is weird.

Its not a gasket its part of the assembely. That piece of metal is soposed to be bent around the nut .. it helps to make sure it does not vibrate off. Infact read the FSM and they tell you to Re-bend it around the nut when you put it back together.. just use a flathead screwdriver. or needle nose to get it out of the way ... or put the socket on and tap it down with somthing .. it will push the metal thing out of the way.

the really fun part is trying to wrestle the turbo out after you get it unbolted.

PB Blaster is the *only* penetrating fluid you need - that stuff is the bomb.

It's usually not that hard to get the turbo off of the manifold - the nuts usually turn loose fairly easily, and they're all pretty easy to get to. The locking tabs are a pain, though, and require some patience and technique.

BTW, I can pull a stock turbo in around 15-20 minutes, without draining the water .
