everybody knows that the GXL is heavy.

I drive mine everywhere, my only car too. Drove it to school, work, around the US lol, and up and down cali. My car gets me everywhere. Racing your daily driver makes you a more alert driver. You don't go ***** out without thinking about the consequence, and you learn to drive better. You watch your line, your revs, the way you manipulate the throttle, etc. Your more aware of everything. I think it's a good way to start out because you'll become a better driver in the end.

You can drift a GXL with the full interior intact. I've done it with mine.
Just don't try doing it with a passenger...

shocks, springs or coilovers, shim the steering rack or spindle mod, bushing kit, sway bars, strut tower bars, wide rims help if you're using peoples thrown away tires as it stretches the sidewall, rollcage, 1.5 or 2 way lsd, dtss eliminators, some sort of upgraded seat, smaller steering wheel, stitch welding, agressive brake pads, good quality rotors, upgraded clutch, pressure plate and flywheel and of course seat time.

Yeah that deffinatly makes sence.

So do you guys think us NA dudes will have an advantage when we finally make the upgrade to turbo (or any other power mod)?

Yes. The track I go to as a_drift will tell you if full of sr 240s. Most of which just power over about halfway through the turns and eventually spin. Dispite having more seering angle and twice the hp most of them typically do worse than some lower hp cars. They lack seat time and techinque. When drifting a na rx7 it's very imortant to learn to throw the weight of the car and recover it sooner than most cars because of the lack of steering angle. once you practice enough with your car and begin to add power and angle you will drift circles around people with better setups.

No doubt man that's a given in this environment. And yes Turbo II Rotor englishtown was just full of SR 240's, it reminds me of here, but there are a bunch of hachis over here too.

I used to be a little embaresed to be getting a GXL
i felt like the title was saying "i bought the bitch version" i was uninformed at the time and when i found out i was kinda unhappy with the purchas to be honest

i need to pay for collage and everything else so money is a factor.
However Im paying about 2500 for this GXL and its practicly in mint condition.
With new tires bands and interior was emaculant. (the guy didnt even drive it in the rain).

I searched around and found TIIs for less, but most of them needed crap loads of work.
Did i make the right decision in buying this car?

Id say you made a good decision, a well taken care of car is hard to find and turbo swaps are plentiful. I still havent swapped my GXL and it does fine, all i did was (in this order lol) 88clutch type LSD, set of meggan coilovers, rear camber bar, set of new wheels and tire for better control. Im happy with mine on factory motor no mods, but I drive a corolla too(pretty much stock motor with 220k) so the HP increase stock was nice. The best thing you can do if you want to compete is start going to events and make sure you have a good working LSD. How long have you been sliding, Ive been in it for 4 years now?

If it's an S5, the GXL is much better than the GTU... since you get cruise control, a rear wiper, and four-pot brakes... and it comes with tilt steering, too.

OTOH, the GTUs is the coolest NA.

GTU FTW! Rockin an '88.

But congrats on getting the GXL. Don't worry about parts until you're used to the car, and the best mods are seat time, seat time, and a little more seat time. Did I mention seat time? Oh yeah cheap tires are good too :P

IIRC, the tilt steering doesn't go any higher than the non-tilt steering... so it's only a feature you'd use if you're really, really short.

My biggest concern is no cruise control, and single-pot brakes on my GTU... I REALLY wish I had cruise control. Getting the brakes is simple enough, though.

Of course, having a turbo is even better for the obvious reasons, but also because you get ABS and wheels that are wide enough for 225s. Plus you get ALL the goodies.
